The Overton Window and Bitcoin: How Ideas Go from Fringe to Mainstream
The Overton Window is a way of understanding how public opinion shapes what's politically and socially acceptable. It refers to the “window” of ideas that are considered mainstream at any given time. Ideas outside that window are seen as radical, taboo, or unthinkable—until something shifts.
Bitcoin is a perfect example.
A decade ago, the idea of a decentralized, stateless digital currency was dismissed as fringe or even dangerous. Governments, banks, and media outlets mocked or ignored it. But slowly, the Overton Window began to shift.
Here’s how:
1. Cypherpunks and early adopters challenged the existing financial system.
2. Major institutions—once hostile—started holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets.
3. Politicians began talking about crypto policy seriously (for better or worse).
4. Countries like El Salvador made Bitcoin legal tender.
Now, the idea of Bitcoin as a legitimate asset class—or even a potential foundation for a future monetary system—is no longer unthinkable. It’s inside the Overton Window.
Why it matters:
If you believe in Bitcoin’s mission—decentralization, sound money, financial sovereignty—you’re part of a movement that’s shifting the window. The conversation has moved. What was once radical is now a serious topic in global finance and policy.
The takeaway:
The Overton Window shows us that public narratives can change. If Bitcoin continues to prove its value, educate the public, and survive attacks, it will keep pulling the window further toward a freer financial future.

Chaim in "The Jews of Khazaria" makes a good case that medieval Jewish migration was far more East to West than the reverse, with (much better documented) counter-flow only in the 1700s.
Given the extent of Italian migration into Argentina, it would stand to reason that results would be strongly biased towards Italian heritage.

I had crazy vivid dreams that I was coughing because something was in my throat. I was coughing so much I ended up on my hands and knees, and suddenly coughed up a whole live bright red house finch. It started singing really beautifully as I coughed up a dozen or so more before collapsing on the grass. I knew I was dying because snakes burst out of my belly button. I knew I was dead because it was like watching a fast forward time lapse of the corpse decaying and being eaten by the bugs. But I could still feel all the birds and snakes and bugs that came from me and the sun shining on the grass so warm and magical it made the beautiful house finch song make sense. I was everything and it was so beautiful it made me want to sing.
On another note, anti-parasite treatments give almost as insane dreams as anti malaria drugs. I am seriously considering getting some weed to smoke while I finish this treatment just so I don't become some screaming mad prophet.

The blue-flowered plants look like spiderwort or "Santa Lucia" as they called them in Argentina. There is something about the "dew" drop that forms on the flower in the morning which can be medicinal for the eyes. This plant has interesting looking adventitious root-like things (similar to corn) and can stand drought.
