Bitcoin is centrally planned by a council that you need to be hired by a company like blockstream or chaincode labs and give your KYC info to get a monthly salary to participate in and merge commits to the core codebase.
This council have decided that the block size should have been increased to 4mb (huge blocks), and no one has a say in this, and no one has a say in the future of their money.
Monero has decided to let the community decide so it kept blocks small (300kb) and it can increase in the future (if needed, but with a penalty for doing so) so that only users of the network can control it.
The next Monero upgrade will make its privacy perfect and allow for L2 and scaling solutions to be built, once again removing the load off of the blockchain and allowing it to stay small, forever. No 4mb blocks here.
Choose neutral money, choose apolitical money, choose money that you control and your privacy it protected. choose #Monero

today's news is about an unknow entity that drops thousands of BTC in an instant swapper to get XMR.
some speculate it's a hack, but no evidence so far
the news broke out a while after Ross saw my reply to his post and zapped it.
coincidence??

Yeah even if it's the legit owner what's mostly suspicious is the *rush* to get Monero quickly, even if the price raises because of it. Usually only hackers move so recklessly

we'll see how exchanges react to this. if 1) XMR gets even more banned, or 2) if more of them die down (rip eXch)
but I don't see how this could be bad in the long run

afaik Arweave was never privacy focused. so just about everything that has a utility token fails, had my lesson learned with LBRY as well. we either build things on top of BTC or XMR or don't build it at all
nym sells plans for btc and xmr but I tried it and went back to mullvad, it just works. even if the token is "not needed" it still makes it worse

Thanks! Yeah it's an open question for what's a better system design... In the system you're proposing, the arbiter basically has "final say" on everything... Even if they're effectively just "rubber stamping" it, they could in principle misbehave and hold things up, even if the patron says "yes the job was done to my satisfaction."
On another subject, I just happened to be thinking before this specifically about "blinded" shipments, that's a good suggestion. I wonder if there is a framework where multiple jobs could be "chained"? I.e. one "patron" is actually acting as a "free agent" for another job, etc... Although I suppose there's no need for the network to know about that.

For those who want to use a model of trust like that we are already distributing the coordinator as part of the Debian package and it is installed and available when you install Wasabi so, the only thing you need to do is to execute the `wcoordinator` and that's it. Then your community can use your coordinator.

monero txs are slightly bigger in size than a btc tx, but a monero tx is smaller and more space efficient than a btc coinjoin so you end up paying less in fees and having less blockchain bloat for greater privacy, mining was solved with the creation of randomx in 2019 so no need to keep up, the State needs to control 51% of all CPUs that exist in people's houses, and also the creation and sale of new CPUs that enter the market very rapidly, versus controlling some big mining farms in a single place in BTC, or the creation and sale of ASICs which take months to develop and deliver

yep the 10 block lock is a known pain point in XMR, like Kanzan said Monerujo can auto manage UTXOs, but you'd still need that first transaction to split the UTXOs, only after they're split you can tip faster more in sequence, but it's a XMR skill you develop with time and can manage it manually

Yep we see the evolution of the world and how internet culture evolved in that time. But it's interesting how the platforms now seem to allow this kind of content to stay up, like that song says "aryan classic" in the title, and those are gaining lots of views, I can't tell if they are simply changing their policies or for them it's become a lost battle if so many people have been feeling the same way? 🤔 but I wouldn't trust their change of heart, seems like a trap for those people posting and sharing still on the same platforms (youtube, X, instagram, etc)

The correct framing here is not that Nostr has evil content, but that _some relays_ do.
These relays are not Nostr, Nostr is only the language your client uses to download the content from the relay, and your device only downloads what it asks for and from the servers it chooses to.

But I don't think CouchDB is good for anything anymore since they got rid of the concept of couchapps instead of fixing it, then turned it into a boring and slow MongoDB copy.

I kind of already do that, you can use accounts and subaccounts instead of separate wallets since the balance is separate either way, so I have account 0 (primary) for personal addresses I leave out there like bio, github, whatever, can easily track them, then account 1 I call it "exchanges", every time I make an exchange I create a new address, it's good to have a load of addresses separate from my main ones so I have hundreds and I don't need to organize them, then I swap funds to the primary wallet when needed
who's the author btw? I don't know duke, maybe we can get him on nostr

The Monero tracing capabilities include expecting users to connect directly to their own chainalysis nodes (spy-nodes) to reveal IP info, and hope that they can match that to other external info like exchange connections
meanwhile on LN users are even more open to giving out data, and even give away custody of funds to wallet service operators like WoS and coinos. making tracing payments as if they it's tracing paypal payments
they don't offer tracing capabilities for LN because no one uses it for crime and it doesn't have enough volume or reliability for those millions in hacked funds/ransomware/money laundering

"Monero has been strongly growing nonstop despite major delistings the last few months.
Not a mega pump, but a surge. Steadily climing up the charts.
Months ago a token engineer friend told me that Monero should be valued much higher due to regular inflows. Yet it was an enigma that the price was so low. He suspected there was active price suppression.
Now with the delistings, there's a strong sign that the exchanges may have used Monero's anonymity to trade against their users skimming from them. Nobody can detect them due to Monero's anonymity.
With the exchanges and their privileged access to traders gone, now real organic market activity is occuring.
This is a possible reason why Monero is experiencing such strong growth.
If you believe this line of reasoning then it indicates Monero is actually hugely undervalued right now.
Especially with the coming FCMP privacy upgrade and the coming centrality of privacy narratives in crypto."

Many people believe that maintaining certain "logs" simply depends on the developers' will, but that's not always the case. Often, storing data is simply a technical necessity that cannot be avoided, or avoiding it means paying a high cost elsewhere. In this case, receiving an xpub means that the server must derive scripts for each of the supported paths and then search for them in an index (utxo set) to know their status. This is a very computationally expensive task, and it would make a lot of sense if the result of that process were stored in a database for future use.
I don't know if that's actually how the Samourai server was implemented, but it's highly possible that it was. If so, it would also make sense to maintain backups of this information as it would allow the service to resume quickly in case of any issues.
What we do know is that Samourai Dojo does store xpubs and addresses, which can be seen in the database script, and as I mentioned before, this makes a lot of technical sense and reinforces the idea that a design based on scanning xpubs requires a database.
I think this is important to know because there is a community of users who maintain Dojo servers to which users can connect, and each one of them maintains a database with this information.
The problem with this design decision is simply that no matter how altruistic your intentions are, databases are difficult to protect.

yeah *when* FCMP is live and we have the ability for payment channel networks, it's gonna be more private, cheaper, and faster to have channels opens, closes, you'd be able to experiment and try around more, so it may evolve to be better, because on btc the incentive is to do as few on-chain txs as possible, so that creates all the issues we see today, but still will take a long time to get there and will probably be very unpopular since on-chain just works

Okay I can see Cloudflare mention "regulatory challenges" themselves here https://blog.cloudflare.com/how-we-extended-cloudflares-performance-and-security-into-mainland-china/
> n the case of China, any organization that wishes to operate a website inside of the country needs an Internet content provider (ICP) license from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). We investigated whether it would be possible for CloudFlare to obtain an ICP license to cover all our customers, but determined that licenses needed to be issued on a per-site basis. This introduced an enormous amount of regulatory complexity.
