Chaim in "The Jews of Khazaria" makes a good case that medieval Jewish migration was far more East to West than the reverse, with (much better documented) counter-flow only in the 1700s.
Given the extent of Italian migration into Argentina, it would stand to reason that results would be strongly biased towards Italian heritage.
Interesting, if mostly Italian maternal DNA. Yes, I can imagine it would be very controversial. Under the Halakha, they would not be Jewish if it could be shown their maternal ancestor was a shiksa :D
