The more I explore Nostr—especially clients like Primal—the more limited it feels in some ways. I really prefer Damus overall, but I do like Primal’s Explore page.
I’ve tried Nostur, still getting used to it. Also heard some chatter about Yakihonne—curious to try it out.
I mostly use iOS and web.

If you try to turn profits in the incubation stage, you inevitably strangle growth and quality suffers.
That's why grants have turned out to be such a problematic model: people usually view them as personal income and spend them on rent and food, rather than seeing them as investment income in a business they are building, that should be reinvested in making that business grow. That's why they slow or stop working, when the grants run out, or they jump to some other project, to collect grant monies for that. They haven't bothered building something that *generates income*, so their economic incentive to continue the effort evaporates.
And that's why they only write code, rather than build infrastructure and processes: you can just drop code and walk away, with no bills, no staff, no contracts, and no further expectations of services delivered.
Slam, bam, thank you ma'am, but make it FOSS.
-

@ fd208ee8:0fd927c1

I mean, if you think about overall resources, rather than merely Bitcoin income, we're one of the biggest projects. The services and hardware adds up to a small fortune, and we have some Bitcoin income, but there's no profit margin because we reinvest everything.
We haven't surpassed Primal, in budget size, tho.
Yet.

Same as with architecture/design and devops because those three things consume the vast majority of development costs.
Coding is cheap, in comparison, but it's the only part you can't completely skip and still have software.
nostr:npub1s3ht77dq4zqnya8vjun5jp3p44pr794ru36d0ltxu65chljw8xjqd975wz is following what German logisticians call the "Maximalprinzip" (with the available resources, attempt to reach the maximum potential), but most Nostr projects use the Minimalprinzip (attempt to reach the lowest viable goal with the least possible resources).
So, they cut out architecture, automation, monitoring, testing, and maintenance, and vibe code some ish and then do a victory round and collect the Bitcoins from some useful idiots who haven't figured out that vibe coding has no monetary value because it isn't work.
We actually have one of the biggest budgets, despite hardly any income. Easily pushing over $100k in engineering hours, so far. Building something solid takes time and costs a lot of money. It just does.

Yes and no. You can have more than one wallet used for SENDING zaps, because that is set up separately for each client you use. However, you can only have one wallet at a time for RECEIV8NG, because that is set up in your profile, so anyone can zap you, regardless of which client you are using.

Yes - that challenge is exactly why we needed to evolve our approach. If you’re interested, this photo shows how our “purgatory” data pipeline works today.
Welcome only looks for new user posts within a very short period of time after the creation of their kind 0 event. Since their posts are often stuck in purgatory during that period of time, welcome misses their posts when they are later added to our relay. I could make changes so that these new user events are also sent to the welcome relay at that time.

When we introduced the new data pipeline for our aggregator it significantly reduced what welcome.nostr.wine will ingress due to the way it was built.
I haven’t spent any time updating it as many clients added hashtags to initial new user note prompts and it seemed less valuable.
If there’s still interest in that relay I can take a look at what needs to be done to update it.

We're so early...
https://sovereigncraft.com is the best in game implementation of Bitcoin Lightning in any video game by a long shot, just ask any of our players. And yet we have less than a dozen players that play regularly. nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqgcwaehxw309ahxverz9ehx7umhdpjhyefwvdhk6tcqyrdlxaahuuv92vplcj9gk8lwq70ljyr67mt6t8yfyd4fhn3ha60pjn8q7yr just joined and was immediately impressed nostr:nprofile1qyghwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnhd9hx2tcprdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnjd9nksarzdak8gtnwv46z7qpqkun5628raxpm7usdkj62z2337hr77f3ryrg9cf0vjpyf4jvk9r9sumtqts is one of my OGs.

It also seems hard to be valuable liquidity. Because for that you need well connected channels to be routed through, I guess. But for that you need to find the channel partners. And in the beginning you wont be a good partner, I guess, because you wont have from 1sec to another ebough channels.
What is a rule of thumb in your opinion for number of channels and channel liquidity for a family node?

I was worried about that lol
It’s not being abused yet, but I’ll need to rate limit it eventually

I think I am understanding this correctly. So y'all are connecting those who own mining hardware with those who would like to earn sats, but don't want to buy their own mining hardware?
Why would those who have the hardware rent out time on it instead of just getting paid sats from mining? Presumably this only works out for those renting time if they are getting more in sats than they are paying to rent the time, in which case those who own the hardware would have also just made more money if they didn't rent out the time on their machines.

Nope!
We're a marketplace, not a hosting company. Since we get this question a lot, we had one of our co-founders answer on video.

Bummer! No good option there yet, except nsec.app, and that requires keeping the browser active.

Unless you're sending some fatty zaps, probably 20k sats is more than enough to try it out.

Nice. Thank you.
I’m interested in how they implement it, so any platform is fine.
