At last, some clarity is emerging out of the fog. It's time to burn the boats.
After quite some time navigating "unemployment", I've come to the realization that I can't go back to abominable world of LinkedIn, corporate bullshit, selling my time, attention and interest for somebody else's "vision", profit or "opportunity". I'm unemployed primarily because some aspect of my soul knows this and won't even allow myself to entertain that world anymore.
Taking the last months reskilling myself toward working in Bitcoin and FOSS, on technologies and projects I actually *enjoy* and believe have meaningful impact for the world, I've been teetering on the brink of fear of stepping into the unknown. What if it doesn't pan out? What if I'm not good enough?
Over the last days, a realization is beginning to dawn. I can't go back to that world. It's soul-killing and if that is ignored, likely body killing as well. I don't know how I'll eventually be able to earn an income, or what I might even end up working on, but I can't go back. And as I've taken my long-delayed baby steps into uncertainty, encouragement and support has shown up in the form of free community support / training programs, inspiring community members and project opportunities. There's so much to learn, so much to be interested in, it's overwhelming. But it's time to throw myself into this world fully and stop puttering around, entertaining the possibility of a backup plan from some LinkedIn recruiter.
Even if I have to start selling my Bitcoin to pay the bills, even if it means starting at the bottom again, with unfamiliar, yet exciting, technologies and projects. Life is meant to be lived and there is no life for me in that LinkedIn, opportunistic, narcissistic world of self promotion that passes for status-quo company culture.
It's time to burn the boats.
I'm writing this primarily for myself, to mark this moment of clarity, for when I might need to look back on it.

Incredibly well put. Helps to recognize how lack of feedback over long, remote software engineering projects can contribute to a build up of dissatisfaction with "work". Always unconsciously compared and contrasted that effect against experience in construction -- build a wall in a day, something exists that didn't exist before, appreciate a tangible monument of progress and let it all go when work is over.

Started reading Man's Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl, an Auschwitz survivor and psychotherapist, a student of Freud. It's a true inspiration toward surrendering to one's fate, to recognizing that suffering *is* consciousness, and finding honor and purpose in "being worthy of one's suffering".

2. How does the problem your addressing with Holesail.io compare to those addressed by cloudflared and ngrok? By using AWS as a proxy for public internet traffic, is that a similarly centralizing factor?

That helps me understand your comment. I've been studying Dionysus and other mythological figures from the lens of Carl Jung's psychological work on collective symbolism.
From that point of view, those dramatic, cosmic, inter-deity conflicts might be seen as attempts to interpret the unconscious psychological phenomena within ourselves, or at play in collective society.
Good times? Bad times? Definitely interesting times!

I agree, the incentives around engagement online are totally toxic. However, aren't emotions and experiences of darker aspects like hate and envy also part of the human experience?
I'm not suggesting one should seek to surround themselves with or propagate such. But I fear pretending like Nostr can be a panacea of good-vibes-only, or holding that such is easily possible for oneself, carries big risks of bypassing the Jungian shadow instead of integrating it. Perhaps the systems we build with their incentives and emergent properties are products of our current collective psychological evolutionary stage. New systems like Nostr can be a better next step toward a more integrated future, but we might be too ambitious to expect them to eliminate hate and such entirely without first confronting it within.
Anyway, looking forward to your longer-form writing. I just skimmed the linked article, so forgive any ignorance.

Yes, once you make it past the third day, you get introduced to another technique which you use for the remainder.
I'm also a big fan of self-retreat, but it's definitely helpful to get introduced in a traditional way to ask questions and set a solid foundation for solo practice.
