The simple answer is because fiat is dying. The deeper answer is that this entire statement is misleading. While Lightning does have routing and liquidity mechanics under the hood, those aren't issues a company like Epic would ever have to deal with directly. Epic would likely use a payment provider, like nostr:nprofile1qyf8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytn6vfjzuem8qqsv73e7h6tndwngn3ccmc74auufpx722ldncw8rl8087hddljyw6mc5ux85g that I mentioned above with Splitgate, that abstracts all that away. And to say fiat has 'no such problems' ignores the real world issues with fraud, chargebacks, fees and settlement delays that fiat rails still deal with on the daily. So the comparison doesn’t hold.
Also, the part I was saying was wrong wasn’t about fiat vs. Lightning. It was your blanket claim that Lightning is 'jank' and can’t scale. That’s just not grounded in reality. Lightning is already handling microtransactions in live gaming environments today. Even my Rust server, running with just a handful of open channels, has no issue routing sats instantly and reliably. Lightning payments at scale isn’t theoretical, it’s happening right now, in the wild.
As for Zenon, calling it a 'Lightning successor' is pure shitcoin marketing. It’s a speculative project with no real adoption, no meaningful developer ecosystem and no demonstrated ability to scale in production plus it includes the need for a shitcoin. Meanwhile, Lightning has global reach, developer momentum, enterprise interest and actual users. Don’t let a buzzword filled whitepaper distract from a protocol that’s already working. Hype doesn't scale, working code does.

The delivery company was the seller in this instance. The guy is the delivery company for Clayton Homes in our region and presumably gets these trailers when delivering new ones then resells them. We bought this one because it's cheap and to hold us over while we build. Luckily I have text messages from him + a neighbors reports they damaged it while bringing up the drive.

No, sats (represented as blood) is the highest valued currency in game. We introduced a stock market style setup where players can place a buy order for any in-game item (let's say a gun) and then other players can sell that item to the other player for sats(blood). Anything in the game can be purchased with sats from other players creating a PoW where the player finding and producing tools/resources gets the reward from another player that needs those items.

Sovereign Craft is natively lightning in game in a transparent way. Every in game transaction is a real lightning transaction with a real invoice behind the scene. The player may not even realize it. The in game wallets can be used IRL natively without transfer. The wallet works when the game is down. There is no in game money, the game is in fact just a VERY Fast to the wallet on the node.

Orange expanded to offer a second server called Mandarin that is PVE based. I then launched Tangerine that is a middle ground between the PVP style of Orange and the PVE nature of Mandarin that has PVP zones around high value monuments but still allows players to live a safe life in the PVE areas.
Tangerine also launched a slightly different rewards mechanism. Instead of finding blood, players need to build a computer station and then search out Bitaxe models from across the map. As they put their miners in the computer station they create Hash. Players then take that Hash to the major safe zones (Outpost & Bandit Camp) and deposit it in a special box that removes the Hash from the game and credits their account. At the end of the wipe we reward players based on their % of deposits with the equal % of the wipe rewards pool (similar to a FPPS mining pool). During the next wipe they issue the command /claim to get a deposit of blood that they can then trade with other players or withdraw to their own lightning wallet.

Slightly. We are a part of their community but since you probably last seen it I developed a new plugin that allows a more interactive way of playing on the server. Players can now send and receive sats directly inside the game using chat commands like /buyblood to put sats into the game as the in-game asset blood and /sendblood # lightning@address.com to convert that in-game asset back into sats via lightning. The plugin is live on all of the servers now. Tangerine also has a direct market where everything in the game is tradeable against blood. If a player needs a gun they can go a NPC vendor and deposit sats that allow any other player to trade their guns for those sats. Both Cashu mints and custodial exchange wallets are backed/banked by a single entity. I can slightly see the point of part two though because the protocol could be easier to swap from due to the mint not having as much information to limit redemption. They could still limit redemption by other methods like where the withdrawal is set to go. Similarly you can usually move via lightning based on very similar voluntary market forces if you realize the custodian isn't reliable.

Yes that part is clear to me, but you can swap mints if you feel like it - I think this is a major difference to traditional custodial options and why I prefer if we don't conflate the word with invariably different things.
1. A custodial exchange/wallet when you're banked by a single entity.
2. A protocol that has custody tradeoffs that can be chosen based on voluntary market forces.

You can't redeem on another mint directly. You have to redeem on the first mint and then it forwards a lightning payment to the next mint that then issues them to you on it. If the first mint rugs you then your mint/next mint wouldn't credit you. This disclaimer is excellent as far as trust goes though.

Tbh I actually disagree with my argument here. I don't believe ecash is custodial; I believe it's a shitcoin akin to the dollar being backed by BTC. The issuer can determine how much they back the token or make any rules for how they'll give out Bitcoin against it. There's also nothing that ties your original deposit to the ecash you receive. It has no tie to Bitcoin anymore than something like liquid.
I actually made this argument in an unsent opinion letter to the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions when we were planning to launch a Fedimint. I believe that when someone gives you money that they're actually performing an economic transaction of buying a totally different asset. The asset has no ties to Bitcoin and as long as the mint doesn't make claims to be backing or custodying then they shouldn't be regulated as such.
I don't think this is necessary a bad thing as long as it's an understood element. I think there's a lot of value to mints in our current base layer situation. The tech could still allow scaling for a wide range of new functions that aren't possible/feasible on base BTC. That being said I look forward to more advancement that doesn't necessitate us living in an ecash world.
