Each subscriber can only "decrypt it with their own key" if a separate version of the note is saved to the relay, each copy encrypted to each subscriber's key.
The way to do it would likely be to encrypt it once to a separate key for each article and once payment has been made, send the decryption key to the subscriber in their receipt.

sure but i judge that his approach is centralizing, and i feel that is because of his cynicism about nostr. which is fair, but my answer to it is "do we have to actually stick to these stupid, inflexible websocket APIs" and my answer is no and his answer is "we have to stick to it on the client facing side" you actually can do both. i'm going to prove that by building a bridging server that talks websocket to clients and http to relays.
i figured out that was the best compromise that would let my work be used but also open up new clients that speak only http. because that's what the rest of the world is doing, so i'm doing switzerland for nostr itself, not just my nonexistent relay service business.

This is my take. It's not thst problems don't exist. It's that your friend should recognize which hills are worth dying on.
Losing cashflow if he needs it would not be wise at it reduces your flexibility and fighting power on other hills.

i wish i had a farmers market, with farmers who don't feed all their beasts corn.
i'm so sick of tasting corn oil taint in everything.
speaking of which i need to cook up some *veal* mince that has been fed locked in an enclosure fed corn.
the only animals on this island that don't get fed corn is goats, but you gotta butcher them right because their skank glands, by which i mean lymph glands, stink so bad that if you don't remove them, it ruins the entire cut.
goat is nice, it's like some midway between venison and veal. i bet that 2 year old goats taste good, given you didn't slash open those skank glands.
