Interesting. Is this a approach particular to citrus? 2-4 nodes under moist soil has always worked for me but I've never dealt with citrus. Also I've always used a common rooting powder with willow bark extract but I'm not sure if it actually makes a difference.

I started West Major seven years ago for selfish reasons. I was tired of soul-sucking corporate jobs, working on projects I didn’t care about. I wanted to work for myself.
The idea to make western shirts didn’t come from market research. I just asked myself: If money weren’t a factor, what would I love to make every day?
To me? Western shirts. And a western brand.
I’ve loved this garment and style my whole life. In my late 20s, I decided - if I was going to do it, now was the time. And I wanted to do it in America, where western wear was born.
I didn’t realize I’d just signed up for one of the hardest missions in apparel - with no money, no connections, and zero experience. Making clothes in the U.S. is already hard. Tees and denim? Doable. But woven shirts? Brutal.
Shirting mills? Gone. Snap button manufacturers? Gone. The skilled single-needle labor needed to make a proper shirt? Almost gone. But the deeper I got, the more obsessed I became. I saw American-made western wear as the underdog and I wanted to fight for it.
Eventually, I found a factory willing to try, and we got started.
My first batch launched on Kickstarter. Most were returned. People loved the shirt - but the arms were too tight. I made improvements and, in 2019, re-shipped a better shirt to those original backers. Then I launched the site, moved back into my mom’s house to save money, and started bartending at night.
That fall/winter, we sold out of everything - around 300 shirts. I started 2020 with momentum, ready to build the brand I’d dreamed of since high school.
Then COVID hit. Factory shut down. Bar shut down. No job. No inventory. I was a 30-year-old, single guy living in my mom’s basement trying to start a clothing company. That year taught me how to survive.
The factory reopened that fall, we got shirts made, and sales grew a little.
In 2021, we grew 100% and passed six figures - but lost money. In 2022, we grew another 35% - and still lost money. Everyone told me to give up on American-made.
This path is a manual one. We source every material ourselves, coordinate delivery to the factory. Many things - like pearl snaps and shirting-weight fabric aren’t made here anymore. So we import them, get them through customs, wash the fabric, deliver everything to the sewers. They cut and sew the pieces based off my design and pattern. We pick them up, run our own QC, iron, fold, tag, and bag.
All of this has to be planned months in advance. It takes 3–6 months to make one shirt. If I want flannels for Q4, I have to start spending money I don’t have in Q1.
Or… I could move production overseas and get finished shirts delivered to my door in 30 days, at a fraction of the cost.
But every time I consider it, I lose interest. The energy and excitement behind the brand fades.
At that point, I was bartending four nights a week and pouring everything I had into the business. Constantly out of stock. I could only afford to make 1–3 shirts at a time to meet factory minimums.
Someone pointed out that my margins weren’t high enough - even if sales doubled, I’d still be underwater.
So in Q1 2023, I made what felt like a last-ditch move: raised prices to $200 and moved manufacturing to a tiny U.S. factory with higher prices, but no minimums.
I figured it was my final shot, and probably wouldn’t work.
But it did.
Revenue grew just 10%, but we released more shirts that year, and turned a small profit. In 2024, sales grew another 40%, and the profit grew too. After 5–6 years, I finally paid myself enough to quit bartending.
Now in 2025, we’re still growing. We manufacture with both that small factory and our original one again. We’re in about 14 stores across the U.S. (and one in Italy). All of them have re-ordered. Online sales are up. And we’ve pieced together our own supply chain to make it all happen. It’s not perfect. I want to make the highest quality shirt possible - and doing that in America is still very challenging, complicated, and expensive. But we’re getting there.
There’s another catch.
Recently, I learned from keyboard warriors on X, that to legally claim something is “American-made,” the FTC requires it to be “all or virtually all” made in the U.S. That means every material - fabric, buttons, snaps, labels - must be sourced domestically.
Most countries are more flexible. Switzerland’s “Swiss Made” requires 60% local manufacturing costs. France allows it if half the cost is French. Germany and Japan focus on where the core transformation happens. But in the U.S., it’s basically all or nothing.
That’s been a gut punch.
I can literally watch our shirts get made from scratch, by Americans, in America. Washing, cutting, fusing, sewing, pressing, trimming - all of it done here. And many of our materials are from here too. The labels. The interfacing.
But because our fabric or buttons aren’t made here (and can’t be sourced here), we’re not allowed to say “Made in U.S.A.” I guess?
I’m just trying to make a western shirt in America. I’m not trying to game the system - I just want to be transparent about what we’re doing, and why.
So here’s the moonshot dream:
To build a vertically integrated factory and make a 100% American-made western shirt - fabric, snaps, buttons, labels, and labor - all under one roof. Today, that’s not possible for a small brand like me. So for now, we cut and sew our shirts here, using the best materials we can find, sourcing abroad when we have to.
At the same time, I’m not afraid to use legendary fabrics from overseas mills - some of which have spent generations perfecting their craft. I want to make things here. And I want to make the best stuff possible. I believe we can do both one day. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
The brand is still small. I still work seven days a week. No breaks. But nothing has killed us yet. And we’ve still got 100,000 more shirts, ideas, and products to build here under the West Major banner before I die.

I suppose, but that's why I just don't use it as part of a salutation. I think the actual reason probably is that most people view it simply as an extended weekend. I'd be curious to know how many people even know what the holiday is for.
In a weird way, maybe it's good that few people are mourning the loss of soldiers. It's one thing to remember them historically, but another to actually mourn people you've lost. I'm glad we don't currently have tons of people dying in wars (US). Or at least not enough that most people are actually in mourning on Memorial day.
It's probably just a misunderstood holiday. In fairness, most celebrate something.

Frio e congelamento inegáveis — parte I
Em meados de maio de 2025, fomos “surpreendidos” com a publicação de mais um trabalho científico que mostrou um impressionante congelamento antártico, com uma reposição significativa de neve e gelo. O que poucos informaram é que esse padrão de reposição de massa e as baixas temperaturas já ocorrem desde 2007, quando acontecia o III Ano Polar Internacional, que durou até março de 2009. Mesmo se alternando ano a ano em perda e ganho de massa, ação natural de um continente congelado com 14 milhões de quilômetros quadrados e cercado por oceanos, o cômputo destas duas décadas demonstrou que não apenas há mais gelo, mas também que as temperaturas antárticas estiveram também baixas, contrariando o discurso de que elas apenas se elevam sistematicamente.
A turma do alarde climático gosta de mostrar que qualquer evento meteorológico é prova de “aquecimento global”, quando, na verdade, fazem parte da variabilidade natural do tempo. Claro que também confundem esses mesmos quadros com clima, o que é mais lastimável. Atualmente, quando a situação se inverte, enquadram qualquer caso como oriundos das “mudanças climáticas”, todas elas causadas pelas atividades humanas, mas nem sempre foi assim, porque, há poucos anos, quando as temperaturas baixaram significativamente em ambos os polos, eles conseguiram apontar que as ocorrências de frio com alta precipitação de neve eram também oriundas do “aquecimento global”. Aquece o planeta e neva mais.

A escalada de temperaturas baixas tomou ambos os hemisférios desde 2007 com nevascas nos lugares mais inusitados, como alguns locais no Oriente Médio, África do Sul, França etc. Mas foi na Antártida que as coisas ficaram interessantes. Os platôs próximos das Montanhas Ellsworth, Antártida (80o18’S 081o20’W) receberam cerca de três a seis metros de neve em um ano, entre 2007 a 2008. A área nas adjacências dos Montes Patriota foi a mais atingida.
Na região insular Norte da península Antártica, a ilha Rei George/25 de Maio, pertencente ao arquipélago das Shetland do Sul, registrou um dos anos mais frios desde 1941. De 2009 até 2015 as temperaturas continuaram baixas, congelando significativamente o oceano polar, com extensões ainda muito largas de gelo inclusive no verão. O gelo flutuante foi tão intenso que algumas embarcações se acidentaram neste período. A primeira ocorrência foi em 23 de novembro de 2007. Tratava-se do navio turístico M/V “Explorer” que, após colidir com um growler mais avantajado (um pequeno iceberg tabular baixo, com cerca de um metro de altura), teve seu casco perfurado.
Antes que o navio começasse a adernar para o lado de boreste (direito), o capitão deu ordem de evacuar o navio. Os passageiros e tripulantes foram resgatados após cinco horas nos botes salva-vidas pelo navio norueguês MS “Nordnorge” e o norte-americano “Endeavour”. A tragédia não foi maior porque as condições meteorológicas foram providencialmente excelentes, com ampla visibilidade, sem ocorrência de tempo significativo e, o mais importante naquela região do mar antártico, uma situação de calmaria, ou seja, sem ventos.
Vale lembrar que o Navio de Apoio Oceanográfico — NApOc “Ary Rongel” da Marinha do Brasil — MB, durante a OPERANTAR XXVI, participou das operações de resgate, pois se encontrava muito próximo ao local. Segundo o seu livro de bordo, o navio lançou um de seus helicópteros UH-13 Esquilo Biturbina em sentido ao local do SOS, verificando que os navios “Nordnorge” e “Endeavour” haviam resgatado todas as pessoas, não necessitando de evacuação aeromédica. Poucas horas depois, enquanto os resgatados eram desembarcados na estação chilena de Frei Montalva, também posicionada na ilha Rei George, o “Ary Rongel” chegava ao local, recolhendo quatro dos barcos de salvamento (estilo baleeiras), rebocando-os para a EACF — Estação Antártica Comandante Ferraz do Brasil que também se localiza na mesma ilha.
O M/V “Explorer” não durou muito, pois a inundação de seus compartimentos continuou a adernar o navio até que ele se deitasse completamente. Cerca de 20 horas depois ele afundou e hoje se encontra a aproximadamente 1.100 metros de profundidade. A investigação não teve um desfecho satisfatório e alegou-se que a pouca experiência do capitão em distinguir gelo recente do mar congelado em relação aos blocos mais antigos e massivos teria sido a causa do acidente.
O que poucos reportaram foi a estranha presença ainda destes blocos massivos e antigos em área tão periférica do campo de gelo nesta região subantártica. Isto sugere que tanto pelo efeito da água apresentar-se bastante fria, quanto pelas baixas temperaturas atmosféricas, houve uma preservação maior destes grandes blocos por mais de um ano. Eles podem ser facilmente reconhecidos pelas imagens do naufrágio, e tudo isto ocorreu no primeiro ano do III Ano Polar Internacional.
Vale lembrar que o M/V “Explorer” já havia passado por situações inusitadas na Antártida em períodos frios semelhantes. Em outros anos também considerados muito frios, ele chegou a encalhar, mas sem incidentes e danos estruturais significativos. A primeira vez ocorreu em 1972, justamente no ano que as imagens de satélite foram liberadas para a área científica civil. Na ocasião, a Marinha de Chile resgatou seus passageiros e a Marinha Argentina rebocou o navio quando ele se soltou. Depois, em 1979, outro ano muito frio, o mesmo ocorreria novamente e mais uma vez o navio ficou encalhado no gelo, justamente no Natal, em 25 de dezembro. Os passageiros foram resgatados, mas uma tripulação mínima permaneceu a bordo, aguardando a chegada de um potente rebocador.
Em abril de 2012, foi a vez de uma embarcação brasileira. O iate “Mar sem Fim” ficou preso pelo gelo, bem próximo também da ilha Rei George, enquanto fazia um documentário sobre “aquecimento global e afins”. O barco acabou afundando pouco mais de meia-nau e foi necessária uma operação de resgate efetuada pelo Navio de Socorro Submarino NSS – “Felinto Perry” da MB (designativo K11, já desativado) que, com apoio da estação russa de Bellingshausen, da chinesa Grande Muralha e da base chilena de Frei, todas localizadas na ilha Rei George, acabaram por realizar o resgate. Os mergulhadores conseguiram a reflutuação do iate em 31 de janeiro de 2013.
Seriam estes sinais de que um período frio marcava seu padrão naqueles anos? Vejamos que não estamos relatando tendências, mas indicando o padrão verificado. São coisas distintas que a turma do alarde não consegue entender. Os dados pretéritos até o momento do tempo avaliado indicam a tendência para aquela sequência de dados. Dali fazer “previsões” é outra história.
O fato é que as marcas de oceano congelado austral foram impressionantes desde então. O ano de 2012, o mesmo em que ocorria a Rio+20 no Rio de Janeiro, em que muitos dos foliões deste carnaval fora de época gritavam “salve o planeta esbaforido”, não vimos o Ártico desaparecer, como prometera a turma do IPCC e seu garoto-propaganda, o ex-vice-presidente dos EUA Al Gore, e a Antártida marcava mar congelado acima da sua marca média de 1979‑2000, crescendo desde junho até o final do ano e além. Será que teríamos mais novidades a acontecer, tanto no mar, quanto no continente e que podemos relatar agora que saiu essa nova pesquisa sobre a Antártida? Veremos muito mais fatos e dados que corroboram isso.

I got the Intex 10-foot pool with the aluminum frame back in 2020 when all the public pools were closed for Covid. We’ve used it for five summers and it has held up. Haven’t yet put it up this summer but I will. It does sometimes get small leaks, but they’re easy to patch with the adhesive water-proof patches. I drain it, dry it, and pack it up every winter.
Pro tip: put down a layer of 1” foam interlocking tiles (find them at sporting goods stores or online) then on top of that put down a thick tarp. THEN put the pool on top of that. It will protect the bottom from harm and it’ll feel nice and padded when you’re in it.

I think the voucher idea is great. I also listen to a lot of #V4V music shows so I knew some of these tracks already.
I think the music shows are a great way to onboard people. They play great tracks and also guide people on how to use this stuff. Its a very slow grind but it works. Most of the people hosting the shows listed below never touched Bitcoin until a few years ago.

With the #Bitcoin conference getting kicked off and Bitcoin Treasuries seemingly destined for the moon, there is a lot to be excited about. This moment in time feels so Orwellian and dystopian.
I’m pretty liberal in some ways. I was raised by a single mom. My father died in Vietnam, and my father figure was my grandfather. He was of the Greatest Generation. They were willing to put aside their own needs for the greater good. He went from enlisted in the Army Air Force to a Major in the USAF. He bombed the beaches of Normandy, and flew in Korea. He thought Trump was a fool. He didn’t see what we can see now. He taught me about guns. (This is his picture on his 100th Birthday in his original uniform) He insisted he was just doing his job. I’ve never thought anyone needed a gun until now.
I’m pretty sure we are headed for pure chaos. I don’t know how it comes, but I have thoughts. It is scary. But, at the same time, I know I won’t have to go through it all, so I can really look at it and Yell FIRE from the top of my lungs while finding the entire thing utterly fascinating to watch unfold and securing my family through everything precautionary measure we should take.
I was talking with my wife last night. I was remembering how back in the 2010’s we had charts that said, “Somewhere about 2025 the financial situation gets dire.” Even with all the variables, COVID, Trump, Israel, Ukraine, those charts were right. Anyone that is a nocoiner doesn’t get it. That is most people.
I feel as if my entire life is a crescendo. This condition being in the final stage of a 30-year progression at this time just makes it all the more surreal. These last three years have been a lot. At first, I tried to bring it all together in a document and keep detailed track of everything changing. No one believed me and it wear so much on one to constantly be re-reading and revising and appending such a large document. If it was a book, it would be ok, but it is my life and the things I had to constantly review we so painful.
So now, I just try to document the changes as they occur and persevere. It is a great release to just decide to be happy no matter how much you are going through. Just keep doing every normal thing you can do while you can.

We could offer something like this if it is helpful.
Perhaps you would buy some type of org based membership that includes up to X npubs with a certain NIP-05. We could then automatically accept events from any pubkeys listed in your NIP-05 json.
There are some design considerations to make sure it doesn’t slow down write speeds but I’m sure we could figure it out.
