Working full time. No university detours, no backpacking sabbaticals. I chose the straight path, the “responsible” one, the one society often quietly champions when it wants you to hurry up and be a functioning adult. So I did. No drinking, no clubbing, no “silly little purchases” to clutter my conscience. I spend thoughtfully, cautiously sometimes, not at all. And yet, here I am: genuinely struggling to eat two meals a day.
It’s humiliating, honestly. I’ve put groceries on payment plans. Think about that for a second?????? breaking up payments to buy eggs and pasta. I’ve stared at digital baskets, playing God with dinner ingredients, asking myself “what’s the cheapest way to feel full?” Not happy. Not healthy. Just full.
My friends? They’re out. Concerts, dinners, weekend getaways, shared stories with geotags. Me? I say “no” so often I’ve become a ghost at the group chat. Not because I’m antisocial. Not because I don’t want to be there. I physically cannot afford the transport there, let alone the meal or activity waiting on the other side of that journey.
And the worst part? I’m doing everything right by conventional standards. Working. Sacrificing. Living frugally. Avoiding debt wherever possible (although that’s a battle I’m losing now too). Still, the math just never adds up. I am stuck at the intersection of “doing enough” and “never enough.” Debt is piling not because I splurged, but because I existed.
This isn’t burnout. Burnout implies you had fire to begin with. This feels more like erosion. A slow chipping away of spirit. Of dignity. And what’s left is this hard, quiet question: How is this supposed to be normal?
Because I’m not lazy. I’m not wasteful. I’m not reckless. I love my life, I love my friends and I love where I live, but I’m miserable at the same time, money is a constant in the back of my head. I’m walking a 2 hour commute just to make it to work because I can’t afford the train fare, which has gone up in price again btw FFFFFFFFFUCK LONDON.
Honestly how are people affording to live, I work a full time job, share a flat with 4 people, and still feel like I need another full time job, I get paid a decent salary for my far and experience, one that is SUPPOSED to cover atleast a months worth of wages. People keep telling me to put money aside and save and invest in my future, BUT I DONT HAVE ANY MONEY LEFT HALFWAY THROUGH THE MONTH?!? After rent and groceries and transport and debt is paid I am genuinely left with nothing. How are people earning this much money?

You're right that work—in the sense of energy expended toward a goal—is fundamental to value creation. The nuance is around why we work and how value is harnessed in both systems. In fiat, the incentive structure forces us into survival-driven labour—chasing debased money just to stay afloat. Labour and value are disconnected in fiat which is built on rent-extraction, inflation, and debt. Fiat’s extrinsic pressure distorts how and why we work and is a reason why so many people are in jobs they hate, just because it ‘pays the bills.’
In contrast, Bitcoin realigns incentives with intrinsically driven proof-of-work; our innate desire to fulfill our highest passions and follow our greatest joys—whatever they may be, and even if they are not “financially viable” like music or art. This is because Bitcoin is imposing a free market where prices fall to their marginal cost of production (meaning everything is becoming cheaper and cheaper to near-free or free). Technological productivity (like AI and robotics) is the force accelerating the trend and on a Bitcoin Standard, at a certain point, you do not even need to work for Bitcoin in order to experience abundance. You can just do what you love, without worrying about money in any form because all your gifts, talents, abilities, and productivity are serving yourself and collective, while all the gifts, talents, abilities, productivity of humanity (as well as that of technology) is being redistributed back to you through Bitcoin. We have never lived in such an interdependent system and so it breaks all our previous mental models.
This is what fascinates me most about where it is taking humanity.
It may seem like a stretch from where we are now, I know, but many Bitcoiners are already there. Just sitting with this first principle concept opens a whole new world of immense freedom to explore what it truly means to be human.

I consider people foreign when this place is foreign to them. That makes sense to me. But if a Canadian lives near the border and travels here frequently (especially if they have family or work ties here), I don't consider them foreigners. That's just my loose usage of the term though.

No, you are just saying “here is an example of x in y”. That is not causal. There are plenty of examples of “x in z”.
The reason innovation doesn’t reduce labor hours is because people prefer to work the same amount or more to get more when technology improves. We don’t innovate to cut back labor. We innovate to make our lives better. The amount we work is only one factor.
I asked for examples of societies where humans AND animals are treated well and you totally ignored the human part and listed societies without enough technology to meaningfully abuse animals instead.
Have you ever seen how native americans fish now that they have modern technology? They string nets across the river and shoot whales with 50 cals. Just because they say thank you to mother nature afterwards doesn’t make it better.
Abuse of animals and humans happens because there is shitty people, not because of the economic system.
You are making my point for me when bringing up vegans and your family. You realize vegans and your family exist in a capitalistic society right? Did capitalism cause good people to be good or do only examples of bad count?
Capitalism is an economic system, not a moral one. You keep insisting that because immorality occurs in capitalism, capitalism is the cause.
I can look at any society (the ones you listed as your examples of where animals are treated well) and there will be immorality, regardless of the economic system in place.
