Justitie VS gaat voor vele miljoenen schikken met Boeing na crashes 737 MAX
Het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie zegt met Boeing afspraken te hebben gemaakt over een schikking. De vliegtuigfabrikant koopt voor 1,1 miljard dollar vervolging af na het misleiden van Amerikaanse toezichthouders over de tekortkomingen aan de 737 MAX-toestellen.
In 2018 en 2019 stortten binnen enkele maanden twee Boeings 737 MAX neer, waarbij 346 mensen om het leven kwamen. Er was een probleem met de sensoren van het veiligheidssysteem MCAS.
Volgens het Amerikaanse ministerie erkent Boeing dat toezichthouders zijn misleid in hun werk. Het bedrijf moet daarom 1,1 miljard uittrekken voor een extra schadevergoeding van 445 miljoen dollar aan nabestaanden en investeringen in veiligheid. In ruil daarvoor ziet het ministerie af van de fraudeaanklacht.
Niet ingelicht
De toestellen stortten neer na een foutieve meting van het veiligheidssysteem. Hierdoor werd de neus van het vliegtuig omlaag geduwd, waarna de piloten de controle niet meer terug kregen. De MAX-toestellen werden na de tweede crash aan de grond gehouden tot het veiligheidssysteem was aangepast.
Boeing werd ervan beschuldigd de Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) te hebben misleid. Het bedrijf had luchtvaartmaatschappijen en piloten niet ingelicht over het nieuwe veiligheidssysteem.
Het Amerikaanse ministerie zegt te hebben overlegd met families van de slachtoffers over de overeenkomst. Veel nabestaanden zouden de overeenkomst steunen, of niet tegen zijn. Wel hadden sommige families eerder al hun verontwaardiging geuit over zo'n overeenkomst.

The world is divided into several Blocs, one being Oceania (Britain, the whole America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand).
We really can't tell if the world is at perpetual war because we only get the information provided by "Big Brother" to it's citizens, and we can tell throught the book that "Big Brother" systematically lies and manipulates the information. It isn't unreasonable to think that the world isn't at war at all, and it's just a psyop.
I agree the plot itself is quite simple. The substance of the novel is the context for that plot. A techno-autoritharian surveilance state that has managed to bend its cintizenry's will through absolute control, prosecution of thought crime, manipulation of speech and recorded history and constant witch hunting and neighbour to neighbour snitching. Very fitting that the political phyllsophy of the state is called Ingsoc (short for English Socialism) considereing what we are seeing lately.
The film of the picture is a near scene-by-scene adaptation of the book. Iirc even the dialoges are word-by-word, which is in the line with other film adaptations of those days. Imho not a specially enjoyable way of adapting a film, I'd rather read the book if itms going to be done that way,

I see what you’re getting at, but that XOR-mempool idea tackles a different problem. Issue #32372 scrambles the local mempool file, so if someone seizes your laptop, they can’t read raw TX data at rest. It doesn’t touch the blocks we relay and store forever. Once an unlimited-length OP_RETURN is mined, every node keeps the clear-text payload in blk*.dat — no XOR, no masking.
So the question remains: do we let an attacker slip a single 800-byte (or 8 kB) illegal blob into one output, or do we make them break it into >520-byte chunks and pay more fees/hassle? Keeping the limit below 520 keeps that barrier in place without forcing anyone over to Taproot tricks. I still like a modest cap, even if mempool-at-rest gets encrypted.
