Onderscheiding voor paralympisch kampioen Bruinsma, 'inspirerend voorbeeld'
Paralympisch zwemmer Liesette Bruinsma heeft maandag een onderscheiding van NOC*NSF gekregen: de Pahud de Mortanges Trofee. De 24-jarige zwemmer mocht de prijs in ontvangst nemen, omdat de sportkoepel vindt dat Bruinsma "een inspirerend voorbeeld" is.
Zo zette de drievoudig paralympisch kampioen, die een visuele beperking heeft, zich in voor de komst van blindentribunes in de zwemsport. "Dit is een speciale tribune waar blinden en slechtzienden via een koptelefoon de wedstrijd meemaken", legt NOC*NSF uit. "Een commentator doet verslag van de wedstrijd, daar zijn speciale blindentolken voor."
Inmiddels werd de techniek al toegepast bij onder meer het Europees kwalificatietoernooi zwemmen vorige zomer, maar ook bij het NK afstanden bij het schaatsen. "Liesette Bruinsma is een prachtig voorbeeld van hoe sport niet alleen inspireert, maar ook verbindt en toegankelijker wordt voor iedereen", schrijft NOC*NSF.
Tijdens de algemene ledenvergadering van NOC*NSF ontving Bruinsma onder luid applaus de prijs uit handen van voorzitter Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg. De onderscheiding wordt al ruim 50 jaar uitgereikt.
Afval uit het water halen
Een andere prijs die werd uitgereikt, was de Van Tuyll Beker. Die ging naar het Watersportverbond als beloning voor de Clean up on Tour. Al meerdere jaren wordt er al suppend tijdens de zomermaanden door het hele land zwerfafval uit het water gehaald.
De Van Tuyll Beker is een wisselbeker voor de bond die zorgt voor in het oog springende maatschappelijke en sociale impact. "Al het afval dat uit het water wordt gevist, wordt gewogen en daarna naar een milieupark gebracht voor een verantwoorde verwerking. Het Watersportverbond houdt op een ranglijst bij hoeveel zwerfafval er is verzameld."
