Every block is full, equals about 200 GB of data per year. A 2 TB drive will be full within the next 3 or 4 years and then time to upgrade to a 4 or 8TB

No inscriptions, or even op returns... maximum number of utxos.. still between 1mb and 4mb per block, but increasing thousands of utxos per block.. with valid financial dust transaction outputs.
Point is that the utxo problem can occur no matter what, and needs separate disincentive. Eg. No hourly dca as utxos, keep it custodial in lightning or exchange and withdraw as lightning or larger utxo. Educate on common sense utxo sizes or 1,000,000 sets or higher. Samourai support for 100,000 is just as much of an attack as sphinx 100,000 sat channels. Main chain needs to be done with care. Every TX should be 3+ inputs, 2+ outputs

If core had the same mempool rules as consensus rules it would look more like Libre vs Knots. I'm not necessarily opposed to that but would need to fully consider impacts. Decisions were made by Core at the time to have these filters to try to limit some forms of abuse but it has in turn lead to centralization as people find ways to work around the limits while staying in consensus.

That's pretty irrelevant to this PR or issue. Storage growth will continue over time. The growth of the UTXO set is the greatest concern related therein, and hence taking steps to reduce unpurgeable data should be a focalpoint. Arbitrary data will be stored no matter what. Should wr promote perpetual growth in use of unspendable outputs (scriptsig outputs), spendable but likely never spent outputs (inscriptions), or easily purgeable (op returns)?

The more my brain churns on this, the more I'm in favor of the change to remove the standardness rules on op_return limits.
Pros:
- decentralization, reduces need for direct contracting with miners vs TX relaying
- enhanced privacy for these transaction types for location origin
- more blockspace usage indicates more adoption
- data usage is more direct then inclusion in taproot signature
- higher fees paid to miners for data vs if done in taproot as an inscription
- more tx in mempool results in clearer fee rates for tx planning, important for lightning channel transactions
Cons:
- may promote more arbitrary data uses
- increased adoption equates to higher tx fees
- more TX of this kind being relayed may negatively impact low bandwidth nodes or those with data quotas

After careful consideration, I can see valid points regarding enacting this change as both being decentralizing and centralizing. On the decentralizing side, taking away limits announces to users that want large data that they can do it more privately without directly contracting with miners via out of band payments. Contrary, it may be centralizing due to increased network consumption of these larger transactions relayed around to node mempools which may be cost prohibitive to those with network connections of limited bandwidth. However, the same holds true for users embedding data via inscriptions in taproot type transactions. The PR does nothing to address the concern expressed over unspendable outputs and scriptsigs, and such commentary should be ignored.
My stance, at this time remains NACK, as the staus quo of how data is handled in OP_RETURN in Bitcoin Core is fine at its present size and warrants no change.
That said, if this change was merged, I'd be ok with running that code, in part because I'm not under extreme bandwidth constraints with my ISP at this time and recognize most aren't under quotas either.
I will consider replies and get to them in time if appropriate.

Port Of Los Angeles Warns 'Difficult Decisions' Ahead As Shipments From China Cease

President Donald Trump's trade war policies are expected to bring about a 35% decline in cargo arriving at the Port of Los Angeles by next week as "essentially all shipments out of China for major retailers and manufacturers have ceased," according to Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka.
Seroka's warning came during the port's board of harbor commissioners meeting on April 24, with the executive director saying that retailers and manufacturers typically put in orders to factories in Asia around three to four months in advance of shipments and that Trump's 90-day pause on the broad "reciprocal" tariffs resulted in no "real difference" for businesses.
Tariffs Take Toll On Tech Giants. Will Earnings Reveal The Damage?
The Los Angeles Port head added on Thursday that U.S. exporters are also getting "hit hard" by retaliatory tariffs amid Trump's trade war. Seroka said the sectors include agriculture, heavy-duty manufacturing and information technology services.
"U.S. ag exporters are having an especially challenging time, so much so that in March, China bought more soybeans from Brazil in one month than ever in their history," Seroka said.
Meanwhile, major retailers have told Seroka that they have about a six- to eight-week supply of inventory but that "will quickly dry up." The Los Angeles Port is the major point of entry for cargo ships from China and Southeast Asia into the U.S.
"United States consumers and manufacturers alike will find difficult decisions in the weeks and months to come if policies don't change," Seroka said.
The warnings from Seroka come amid continued back and forth over tariffs and possible deals between the U.S. and China. The uncertainty has led to a decrease in shipping volumes from China to North America, with cancellations currently at 50%, according to global logistics firm Flexport.
Trump Trade War: Recession By The Summer?
Meanwhile, asset management firm Apollo Global Management's (APO) Chief Economist Torsten Slok on Sunday released a report outlining the timeline for Trump's tariffs to result in empty shelves, layoffs in the trucking and retail sector and a recession this summer.
Trump announced his "liberation day" tariffs on April 2. It takes about 20 to 40 days for container ships to sail to the U.S. from China, according to Apollo. Slok estimates that container ships coming to U.S. ports could come to a stop by mid-May.
It then takes about 1-to-10 days of transit time for trucking/rail to bring goods from the ports to cities. Apollo Global Management predicts that by late May domestic freight demand will "come to a halt" and that there will be "empty shelves," forcing retailers and others to deal with lower sales.
By early June, Slok forecasts there will be layoffs in the domestic freight and retail industries with a recession hitting the U.S. this summer.
The National Retail Federation, whose members include Walmart (WMT), Target (TGT) and others, forecast earlier this month that U.S. import cargo volume will fall at least 20% year over year in the second half of 2025 as U.S. companies pause orders from China.
Shipping Stocks And Retailers
Big retailers that rely on China-made goods — like Amazon (AMZN), Walmart and Target — are set to feel an impact from Trump's trade war, as well as the slowdown in shipping.
Amazon reports first-quarter earnings on Thursday with Walmart's Q1 financials coming on May 15. Target follows with first-quarter earnings and revenue on May 21. Amazon stock is down around 1.4% in April while Target stock has dropped 7.7%. Walmart shares have advanced more than 8%.
Container liners and logistics companies ZIM Integrated Shipping (ZIM) and XPO Logistics (XPO) are down 0.9% and 9.4%, respectively during April's stock market action.
The 37 stocks in the IBD-tracked Transportation-Ship industry group have collectively declined 17% during 2025. That puts the sector at a weak No. 177 out of 197 ranked industries, with 1 being the best performer and 197 the worst.
Domestic freight company Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) is down 10% in April while peer ArcBest (ARCB) has declined 16.3% during stock market action in April.
Old Dominion Freight Line executives on their Wednesday Q1 earnings call said that their revenue per day for April will decrease about 6% compared to a year ago. The executive team added that a "full recovery in our business trends might take additional time."
Meanwhile, trucking firm J.B. Hunt (JBHT) is down 11.5% this month while Schneider (SNDR) has dropped about 4%.
