So, Bitcoin Mechanic claimed on 2025-05-02 that "Core are trying to aggressively remove a filter because they want spammers to use what it is currently successfully preventing (in service of preventing UTXO bloat). This is a 100% admission of the fact that filters *work* and that the last few years of claims otherwise has been gaslighting from scammers." Now, unfortunately, Bitcoin Mechanic appears to not (want to?) understand that the issue is exactly that it works, but not reliably in every block. If it were true that a minority of nodes could block transactions by not admitting them to their mempools (*lol*), Bitcoin would hardly be censorship resistant, would it? So, given that this extra long OP_RETURN will appear in a block shortly, I’m sure that Bitcoin Mechanic will admit that his claim is untenable and will put in a bit of effort to understand the nuance of something working, but just not working every block, because Bitcoin Mechanic is not disingeneous, right? running knots will literally do nothing different. even if everyone was running knots, if you really wanted to get around tx censorship you would just use miner apis instead of knots p2p. They would be incentivized to do this if it earned them more fees.
Once his client has total control, he would be able to hardfork at will: make smaller blocks, censor all data transactions. You could argue this is a good thing if you were short sighted. In reality it would mean bitcoin is whatever luke thinks bitcoin should be. he would rule bitcoin with total control.
This is why we have a review process in core… who thinks luke ruling bitcoin is a good thing?

The mind blowing part here is not my unix tool, it is showing that nostr is a practical decentralized alternative to Usenet NZBs (torrents are a different thing)
- Blossom servers do not need to store a whole large video file
- Blossom servers do not need to stream an entire large file
- Blossom operators have plausible deniability in terms of content as the segments are encrypted (and they may not have all) and they don't control the key
- Video clients now have mutiple failovers if a segment is stored in multiple servers
- There are bandwidth savings if the video is not watched entirely
- Content creators can exchange the AES key against a zap

For me, the bigger question around this OP_RETURN debate is getting rid of the datacarriersize option (one proposal gets rid of it now, another deprecates it for getting rid of it in the future).
The Core devs are underestimating just how many people construct their own block templates given the popularity of devices like the BitAxe. Given many such miners are principled and won't mine spam transactions, that option is a very important one to have for their own mempool.
