Martyr John the Valah, a Romanian youth, was captured by Tatars and sold to a Turkish master who tried to convert him to Islam. John refused, holding steadfast to his Christian faith. Despite torture and promises of riches, he remained unyielding. His master, enraged by his steadfastness, had him beheaded. Before his execution, John prayed, thanking God for the strength to endure. His relics are venerated, known for miraculous healings.
