🪙⬇️ economics:
can all americans wander around saying "my borrowing limit is irrelevant and i don't have to repay anything and i don't have to explain why i want more give to me now i take and have mine mine mine"? average citizens cannot do that. does the government want everyone wandering around refusing to repay their debts to their corporate overlords? i doubt the corporate overlords believe that. debt forgiveness is not something you can just do with a lazy "we can have whatever we want". debt limits exist as a cap on your potential to REPAY the loan. debt is a LOAN. from the american citizens one way or the other - unless they are borrowing from foreign countries. how is that make america great? borrowing from the saudis and qataris? seriously? appeasing debt balloons at scale is not a solution to bloat. anyone calling for the erasure of the debt limit has completely lost their tether to reality; or they have a profit agenda which benefits from a market collapse as a result of bankruptcy. selling american land and heads per acre to foreign investors? there is no sensible/humane rationale for raising the debt ceiling by trillions, allowing for years of unchecked spending, or erasing the debt limit. the conversation is warped: the public discourse should be pushing fiscal responsibility, not cheering malfeasance.
