Today, a significant incident unfolded off Estonia’s coast in the Gulf of Finland when the Estonian Navy attempted to detain the M/T JAGUAR, a Russian shadow fleet crude oil tanker flying the Gabonese flag. The Estonian Defense Force and Border Guard deployed an AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter, an M28 Skytruck maritime patrol aircraft, and the EML Raju patrol boat to intercept the vessel, which ignored orders to stop or divert toward Estonia. In response, a Russian Air Force Su-35S flew over the tanker, attempting to deter the Estonian forces and violating Estonia’s airspace over the Gulf of Finland. The M/T JAGUAR is reportedly anchored near Gogland Island in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
