citing people like nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyqpqng3elnju7fsn8v80fsewmzg3fsyfetnr80685u4js7xvvtfkd7hsleh6ws is *not* an improper appeal to authority when it's within the scope of what their reseach is actually about -- Rasmussen doesn't just make shit up. Her works collect the evidence of what actually happened.
Similarly with nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyqpq4rqftzsmj630c6r4r9lf7ja5lmsw6hh2tw8skxsnx3lwmud7zq6s7gqezu -- what makes him valuable isn't that he "is right" or somesuch -- it's that he's documented thoroughly a whole bunch of BS claims from woo purveyors for decades, and why they are mistaken. Basically there's a lot of things that require just a tiny bit of effort to learn why they are wrong ...but it's easier to just share them especially (as lately in the case of stuff coming out of the Doshi group) there's some kind of a PR push where suddenly a lot of people(/bots) are sharing something out of nowhere -- if it's something that has gone around before, especially decades before, nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyqpq4rqftzsmj630c6r4r9lf7ja5lmsw6hh2tw8skxsnx3lwmud7zq6s7gqezu has already got links to what the actual story is.
it's not enough to believe something 'because gorskon/rasmussen believe it' of course -- but at the same time not knowing who rasmussen is while talking about covid origins is like not knowing who charles darwin is when talking about the origin of life generally - charles darwin is someone we cite when we talk about the origin of life -- he, like rasmussen, may have some details wrong in the long run but if you want to actually learn about the origin of life at some point you're going to find that he was the first one to really do the heavy lifting of putting the argument of what really happened together.
