They can make it illegal to own, this will just make it more valuable. This has already happened in numerous countries. How do you ban an idea? Math? Tyrants will try but this is unlikely to happen long term in democracies as being anti Bitcoin will be political suicide.
Tracking is much more difficult than you imply especially for small amounts. The number of mobile apps these days that conduct non KYC swaps is growing.
But I’ll give a practical example of how much harder it is to track Bitcoin than fiat. If we make a grant to someone in Egypt with fiat, the regime immediately knows. If we make same grant using BTC, the regime is clueless
