“…options do not come for free. They increase code complexity and cognitive load on the user. Additional load means reduced ability for the user to make an informed decision about every single option. So the question, really, is when should we have an option? I think the answer to that is “when we can reasonably expect users to have a good reason to change the default, and more so than for other options we could provide instead”.”
