The Victoria amazonica, also called the Victoria water lily, is a large flowering plant from the water lily family. It is the national flower of Guyana and is native to Guyana and tropical South America. The leaves of this plant can grow very big, reaching about 3 meters wide.
People grow Victoria amazonica as an ornamental plant because it is beautiful and special. Its seeds can also be roasted and eaten. Interestingly, the design of Joseph Paxton's Crystal Palace in 1851 was inspired by the plant's large leaves. The plant lives in a very unique environment, but its population is not under threat.
