“Marriage is a covenant. That means it’s more important than my feelings or circumstances. If my feelings don’t align with the covenant of marriage, I need to change my feelings, not my marriage status!”
What is a marriage covenant? A covenant is a deep, multi dimensional commitment to another person. It’s putting into your life a new piece of reality. Gravity is real, you can try to defy it, but it’s probably going to win. This is often referred to as a First Principle. Marriage is similar to this, except it’s not as fixed as gravity. It’s dependent on the commitment between two people to come into effect.
Once a covenant has been created, it’s like a new law of reality has been created. Something that is bigger than the people involved. It might seem like we can interact with it flippantly, but there is something much deeper at hand. This is why a covenant superseeds someone’s emotions and circumstances.
I start with this explanation of what a covenant is, because I want you to feel the weight of a true marriage covenant, and why picking a good partner is vital.
