ultimately, blind people are forced to advocate for themselves in a very hostile FOSS environment and I don't think that these folks fully understand just how big of a deal not being able to set up the OS yourself is
like, theoretically you might be able to perfectly follow a guide to press the right buttons on a desktop Linux distro to set it up (I am doubtful) but a phone especially makes this effectively impossible with touch gestures. plus, it's not a simple task either way and it is not only awful to be forced to rely on someone else to set it up for you, but the person helping may not be as able to do so due to the technical knowledge required, making it an even more drawn-out activity
basically, I hope that more folks feel comfortable speaking out about this and the situation slowly improves
