⚡️🇺🇸 WATCH - Tennessee residents launch several petitions to oppose the establishment of #Bitcoin mining zones.
“Because we love our neighborhood. We feel like we have a nice, quiet community, and we don’t want it ruined by this industry.”
Residents are raising concerns about:
🔹 Excessive noise pollution:
“Studies show that noise levels from similar mining operations can reach over 85 decibels — comparable to a lawn mower or a busy highway — and they operate non-stop, day and night.
It’s estimated that one mining site can affect an area up to 5 miles (8 km) around.”
🔹 Air and heat pollution:
“Although Bitcoin mining operations do not emit traditional air pollutants, they generate a significant amount of residual heat, which is released into the environment.
In many cases, this raises temperatures in the immediate area, disrupting local microclimates and putting additional stress on vegetation and nearby ecosystems.
Additionally, diesel generators are often used during peak demand or power outages, releasing harmful particulates and greenhouse gases.
If such generators are used at this site, it will contribute to local air pollution — directly contradicting the city’s sustainable development goals.”
🔹 Unsustainable energy consumption:
“Bitcoin mining is extremely energy-intensive. Even small-scale operations can consume as much electricity as hundreds or even thousands of households.
This strains the local power grid, increases electricity costs for residents and small businesses.”
🔹 Impact on property values and neighborhood aesthetics:
“The constant noise, industrial appearance, and environmental degradation caused by Bitcoin mining can decrease property values and make nearby homes less attractive.”
