With the goal of establishing consensus amongst the Christian leaders, from all over the known world, as to what the official church doctrine should be universally. The conclusion of these church leaders, from many walks of early Christian communities, was the ratified belief that Jesus was both God and the Son of God.
Consensus is important because it showed that the attending council members agreed that was the truth.
