With the #losangeles situation I've been thinking about the different perceptions and attitudes that the right vs the left has towards protest and/or disorder.
The Right basically doesn't "protest"... The only examples are pretty odious, either stuff like Charlottesville or outright KKK rallies. Jan 6th, call it what you will, riot, coup, whatever... It certainly wasn't just a "protest."
The Left, which traditionally has a much more active "protest culture" in America, generally draws a distinction between peaceful protesters and those engaging in property damage, vandalism or outright looting; while, I think recognizing that some of the latter is inevitable when there is any large mass street gathering.
On the other hand, I think the Right sees a large crowd of people, even if they're 100% peaceful, walking down the street chanting or whatever, as somehow "suspect." Like it's just a spectrum of disorder from that to outright looting.
