There is a saying that every book you read makes you lonelier. Because interesting conversations would build on that. But if you're the only one who read that book, or even reads anything, there's nobody to talk to.
In our gradpas' days educated men all read the same things, greeks, classics, the Bible. You had a common base for discussion in the pub or the (traditional) men's club. Then there were three channels on TV. Most people watched the same things.
But now there is no common culture anymore. Gorillion unwatchable TV channels. Almost all new music is garbage. Books are written by AI. (Some romance novel writer just got caught, because she left the prompt in the text...)
