“Amen and Amen” is the theme for the coming Sunday mornings.
This series is a study from the Psalms, in which the psalmist gives voice to prayers that resound in our hearts today.
Today we are discussing, Prayer and the Promises of God.
Our Focus Text today is
Psalm 119:41 NKJV
41 Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord—\ Your salvation according to Your word.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 119:41-48 NKJV
41 Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord—\ Your salvation according to Your word.
42 So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me,\ For I trust in Your word.
43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,\ For I have hoped in Your ordinances.
44 So shall I keep Your law continually,\ Forever and ever.
45 And I will walk at liberty,\ For I seek Your precepts.
46 I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings,\ And will not be ashamed.
47 And I will delight myself in Your commandments,\ Which I love.
48 My hands also I will lift up to Your commandments,\ Which I love,\ And I will meditate on Your statutes.
Introduction.
Again today we look at some of the prayers prayed by the psalmist and let his prayers become our prayers.
As we read these prayers from the Holy Scripture, it is entirely appropriate that we say “Amen” to his prayers and thus make them personal.
- Revive me according to Your Word!
The NIV translates this verse, May your unfailing love come to me, Lord, your salvation, according to your promise.
Here the psalmist was asking God to demonstrate His love for him.
Perhaps we ought to pray that the Lord will open our eyes and help us to see His continuous efforts to show us His love.
2. A prayer for adequate speech at all times.
Often we find ourselves speechless when we have opportunity to witness or to help someone.
Later we say to ourselves, well, why didn’t I think of that at the time?
The psalmist had similar experiences.
He speaks of those who taunt him because of his faith in the Word of God.
The people of God have enemies who taunt them and criticise them.
Some try to intimidate us, and we are afraid to speak to them as we ought.
The psalmist prays that God will give him adequate speech.
Verse 43 says, And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,\ For I have hoped in Your ordinances.
Let us pray that God will help us always to speak for Him as He would have us do.
3. Prayers of affirmation.
I will always obey Your law, verse 44.
I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out Your precepts, verse 45.
I will also speak of Your testimonies before kings, verse 46.
We also have expressions of love and praise.
I delight in Your command because I love them, verse 47.
I reach out for Your commands, which I love, that I may meditate on Your decrees, verse 48.
Conclusion.
In each of these great affirmations, we should be able to unite with the psalmist in petition to God.
Let us join Him in prayer and say from our hearts, “Amen and amen.”
