The Mayan temples were constructed of lime stone that were place together in alignment with filler stones. The same theory use when one is laying down floor tile. The Filler stones as you can see are place below the main stones creating and alignment and the Mayan builders would come back and applied a stucco type mixture over the stones and filler stones creating a smooth finish. This ingenious architectural design was applied to every temple in the Mayan kingdom.
