On May 22, the world will celebrates 🎉 Bitcoin Pizza Day,
marking the first real-world purchase made using Bitcoin — two pizzas 🍕🍕 bought for 10,000 BTC back in 2010.
At that time, Bitcoin was still an experiment. On May 18, a guy named Laszlo posted on the BitcoinTalk forum 💬, offering 10,000 BTC in exchange for two pizzas. Why did he have so many? He was an early miner ⛏️ — and back then, you could mine Bitcoin using just a regular home computer 🖥️. Laszlo even pioneered GPU mining and is rumored to have held over 50% of the network’s hash power at one point ⚡.
His offer was worth about $41 USD at the time. Days went by with no takers — until someone finally accepted. Laszlo posted a photo 📸 of the pizzas, marking the first use of Bitcoin as actual money 💰.
Years later, as Bitcoin soared in price and adoption🚀, people joked that he spent hundreds of millions on pizza. But Laszlo said he never regretted it — “someone had to start.”
What can we learn? 🧠
1. Bitcoin is money. It’s meant to be storing value and exchange values
2. Don’t mock pioneers. 🧑🚀 They take the first steps so others can follow. What looks silly now may be historic later. 🕰️
3. Bitcoin is bottom-up. One forum post started a revolution. Every movement starts small.
