If you're not athletic and have never lifted weights, your body won't be adapted to physical stress — and starting will feel awful and painful. This is natural. When you're not adapted, you're inefficient, and spending energy feels dangerous. But that shouldn't dictate your future.
Decide that you want to become stronger and begin the journey. You will start to change. The more effort you put in, the more your mind and body will adapt. All your systems — nervous, hormonal, skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, even your gastrointestinal tract — will begin to adjust, and you'll become more efficient. Eventually, you'll be so well adapted to lifting that you'll start to enjoy it. You'll become fitter, stronger, and more resilient.
This is how you grow and change your life — slowly.
