I'm skeptical of the claim that the US would be better off with a third party. I suspect we would inevitably end up with a tyrannical beast that has three heads instead of two.
We have to change culture and broken money first. Otherwise, adding more parties will likely just decrease the number of people needed to enforce ever increasing tyrannies.
I'd do away with parties entirely if I could, but that won't happen in a collectivist/tribalist culture. Adding in more tribes doesn't seem like a sustainable long-term solution, regardless of initial benefits.
