I am in my late 50’s and likely part of the first wave to be let go. I have a trade but it’s been dying for a while. What I have been doing is immersing myself in the mainstream Chatbot options. Although I have no coding or IT experience, I do have some familiarity in CAD design and dabbled with computer based music production. With the little knowledge that I have I am taking as much time as I can organise to familiarise myself with mainstream AI options. I have ended up mostly using ChatGPT. I am now in the habit of “consulting” with it on virtually everything going on in my life. A couple of days ago I had an idea for an app and asked ChatGPT for help! I have started vibe coding with the AI’s guidance. Basically, I had no specific idea of what or how I was going to get experience with AI, but I just started. As far as I can tell, getting familiar with AI will potentially only delay the inevitable, which is human redundancy. But until then, I will learn as much as I can and use it as often as I can. That might buy me some time. YMMV.
