In 1918, as Basarabia united with Romania, Alexandru Nemțeanu championed the Romanian language and culture. Soviet authorities arrested him in 1919 for his pro-Romanian stance, accusing him of counter-revolutionary activities. Despite torture and imprisonment, he refused to renounce his beliefs. In 1937, during the Great Purge, he was arrested again, and after enduring brutal interrogations, he was executed for his faith and national identity. May #Saint Alexandru intercede for peace and the strengthening of faith in these turbulent times.
