INAL but, at least in Italy, there is a difference between tax and donation, as far as I know (and I know very little, so check your info):
- Tips are taxed, because they are parts of a payment you make in exchange for a service, even if not required.
- Pure donations, made in exchange for nothing, are tax exempt. They are not deductible (with some exception), so the donor still pays taxes on that amount of money, but the recipient does not.
A donation made to other people online with nothing whatsoever in exchange is actually a pure donation, so tax exempt.
(For example, a Patreon does not count as a donation because typically there is some content for subscribers, so they are not donors, they are clients).
Whether the payment is in cash, through Bitcoin, Monero or gold wouldn't hinge on whether it qualifies as a donation.
