In the 4th century, Germanus, a soldier, abandoned his military life after witnessing the martyrdom of Christians. He sought baptism and retreated to a cave near the Black Sea, living as a hermit. Enduring temptations and hunger, he grew in faith. Eventually, he became a priest, serving the local Christian community. He was known for his asceticism, wisdom, and miraculous healings.
