I run it in my business for the cameras with frigate. Would recommend for you but not the average person. The whole ecosystem is completely unusable if you aren't comfortable with writing scripts and using a CLI.
I'm a web dev. I am one of most technical person I know, above some serious coders from very good CS schools. Still it was a serious challenge to even install homeos completely stock with a single app. Documentation for everything is scattered, sometimes outdated, and basic things are taken for granted.
Even still I can not for the life of me get my coral TPU to work with frigate, causing the whole camera system to not record anything right now. It has the low end FOSS syndrome where it feels like a lot of stuff was only made to be used by the dev themselves.
Seriously, if anyone is running frigate help me. This is a cry for help.
But lots of cool automation can be done with it so if your dedicated enough I think it's worth diving in. Just make sure to rip everything out before selling your house because no one can maintain it.
