I have been pacing around this idea, trying to find a good way to convey it. Maybe I'll find it eventually.
Water fills the shape of the container it's in. The shape of the Bitcoin Twitter container has contorted the community from a thoughtful community on bitcointalk, to a nuance-free, shitposting community. Any idea taking more than 280 characters, not only wasn't said anymore, but was often not passed down to newer members of the community. It is responsible for the cartoonish caricature of the maxi, not even himself can live up to.
Satoshi invisioned a peer to peer electric cash system free from intermediaries. Yet every day, we discuss this wonder through a platform acting as one, deciding what we see, where we are in the algorithm, who gets shadowbanned, or worse. (See picture. Luke got banned (this time) for replying to a meme Elon posted on either 4/15 or 4/16/23)
We should learn a lesson from Satoshi's gift, and consider an open protocol, over a walled garden. As Elon attempts to make Twitter become the WeChat of the West, regardless of the privacy implications, ask yourself, "Should Bitcoiners continue to rely on Elon to communicate?"
Of course, we have in Nostr, found a means of communication as free as our money. We do not ask Elon for permission to hear eachother's ideas, we simply share them, alongside with value measured in sats, the greatest money man has ever known. I expect, much like the changes that happened to ourselves when we first discovered Bitcoin, we might see some changes in the community as well.
A little more friendly, a little more thought out. Of course, not all at once, but with those that provide value to eachother rewarded with sats, faster than one may expect. Man makes Bitcoin, then Bitcoin fixes man. First out of the grasp of fiat. Then free from the Twitter shaped-glass. No longer contorted. No longer shadowbanned. Just free transfer of value and information, unencumbered.
