This is the main issue I see. As someone who trusts no one. The technology is a double edged sword. I really am not fond of using a custodial anything even though I currently do just to get zaps gracefully on Nostr. Makes me feel ill inside even though the fountain.fm service has been good and reliable.
If I could gracefully run my own mint without it being too complicated. Cashu would be a highly appealing alternative, but it is not. All it feels is like traditional banking reimagined for bitcoin. I do hope this changes and the cashu developers wise up to the advantages of empowering everyone to run their own mints first above all. Otherwise most bitcoiners when they understand the cashu technology won't touch custodial anything with a 21 foot pole.
For now I am exploring self hosted lightning nodes and other non custodial wallet solutions. Hopefully one of these works out.
Going to do some experimentation today with using Misty Breez wallet's submarine swap functionality. So I can gracefully take my lightning network SATs and move them into my on chain cold storage wallet. I'll do a post if it all works out.
Let me know if you come across how to host your own mint affordably and gracefully. I would explore and experiment with that technology too. However, i will never trust anyone's mint in the mean time.
