I asked Perplexity about the media’s different approach to "right-wing" resurgence as compared to DEI overreach:
Media coverage tends to highlight what is seen as a challenge to the status quo or to widely accepted social norms. When it comes to far-right movements, exposure in the media often triggers a sense of threat among the public, reinforcing the perception that these groups are dangerous and outside mainstream values. Mainstream media outlets, particularly those with center-left or liberal perspectives, are therefore more likely to raise concerns about the rise of right-wing movements, viewing them as a challenge to inclusive and progressive social norms.
On the other hand, DEI initiatives—though sometimes criticized—are generally based on principles that match the progressive values common in many mainstream newsrooms. Even when there is backlash or accusations of overreach, DEI efforts are usually described as well-meaning attempts to address past injustices, rather than as a serious danger to the social order.
