China pissed off the US when they chose Iran to solve their oil problems over a decade ago. Remember when we were all focused on "Where will all the oil come from because China is facing shortages." Before then, China was our "friend" then suddenly we were at risk of losing our "superpower status" to them.
Russia pissed off the US when they started selling natural gas to Germany. We had just finished spooling up a fleet of LNG ships after discovering a goldmine of unlimited natural gas in continental America. It took us a o er decade to build the ports and ships, and Russia just lays down a pipeline in the Baltic sea over a couple yeats where nobody could stop them.
Ever since we have been agitating Ukraine and Israel to attack Russia and Iran on our behalf by giving them munitions. Israel is our nuclear insurance in the region: Destroy Iran, China falls. Any NATO power sides with Russia in a nuclear conflict: Israel balances the equation.
The rules between Nuclear powers are: Do Not Attack Us Or We Will Nuke You.
Of course Iran having a Nuke breaks this balanced low-intensity conflict, because they are an anti-zionist theocracy. Just one nuke detonated over Tel-Aviv the EMP alone brings Israel to its knees.
So what does this mean for Iran today? It means we destroy their nuclear program, destroy their oil fields in the process. Then we pull the choke-chain on Israel, and the low-intensity conflict continues with China crippled and with Ukraine is settled, Russia is once again considered "evil" by all of Europe, and Germany is dependent on US LNG.
What am I missing?

I understand what the developers are saying. They are saying that the free relays are needed for new users.
In order for Nostr to grow you need free relays because if you don't. Then users don't want to spend time researching how to pay for a relay especially if they don't have a lightning address.
In a way it makes a bit of sense.
We can just tell users to move onto paid relays once they are comfortable on Nostr. It doesn't affect me too much. It's the free relays administrators that have to put up with that nonsense. Let them take the pain. zmy relay will continue to be paid. I don't like headaches.

The problem with Last seen is many people, including myself, would rather not make that public. What’s worse is that it is unexpected. When you update a private bookmark, or some other private data, you don’t expect someone else to see that you were online 1 minute ago, but that’s what happens when using public relays to save private data, even when encrypted because the metadata is public.

Exchange -> BitKey, get some practice and learn -> proper airgapped cold storage -> one of: [roll your own multisig] or [whiteglove multisig services like Casa] depending on how technical you became in step 3.

I think this is where WoT comes in, as new users generally have some nexus of another user. They could inherit some of the PoW of people who follow them, and the PoW can be some background process that doesn't effect UX too much. The key is making the marginal cost of a new npub higher than spammers are willing to bear. If it costs $0.10 of compute per npub, spammers might make several but will give up when those are easily filtered out.

The preference would be that NO ONE has to see it, particularly for the worst types of unwanted notes.

We have the tools with proof of work to mitigate the worst of spam. There is already a NIP to add PoW to notes, but that makes UX for normal use quite degraded. But what if we only had to do it occasionally? Let's say my profile contains a reference to a note on which I included PoW. Clients then could filter out users by which have shown a certain level of PoW, which if set high enough would make these spam attacks unfeasible.

When you update something that you expect to be private, it will still reveal in the metadata that you did something and when using relays as storage it happens all the time, this is what updates the "Last Seen".

Compared to the mute list the follow list is even more long-standing/defined but last week I saw 2 more people get their list nuked, its just not solved (only in theory but not in practice). Nostur is used a lot to recover follow lists, I would probably have to implement similar mechanisms for mute lists.

I tired that wallet and their lightning except my channels got close by force because supposedly you're supposed to leave your phone online 24/7.
I turn off my phone at night and sometimes throughout the day when I'm not using it. I changed to wallet of satoshi instead and that wallet is extremely simple. I'm not a big fan of lightning, I don't really like the dumb opening and channels. With the wallet of satoshi I don't need to worry about opening and closing channels. Who wants to open channels and all that dumb stuff. Not me and not most users.

It is. The whole idea is to connect to or operate relays that align with your preferences. The things that make nostr censorship resistant also enable tight censorship on a small scale with the option to opt out. It's about keeping the exits open. That point is lost when relays are hidden and keys are obscured away, though. Trying to dumb it down rather than leaning into unique possibilities, I believe, is hurting more than helping. People are dealing with these things they need but don't understand and are told they don't need to think about them until they do, which is usually when something bad is happening. They could instead be exploring fun options and learning how to manage those bad situations in the process. There's just very few ways to interact on the protocol like that right now, because who wants to build half a bridge and hope someone else will build the other half? That would be terribly frustrating.

That does look odd, I do notice you did have over 20 relays configured, with some old and probably broken ones. Nostur imports these when you first set up an existing account. What you could try is go to Settings -> Configure your relays... and only enable receiving from a few good relays, try up to 5 max.

Said brotherhood started as a good thing but slowly got captured and enslaved like all revolutionary movements.
The 1717 reorganization of Freemasonry claims they're the rightful descendants of the earlier operative Freemasonry that had built the beautiful structures of the Middle Ages. I wished more people would look into this and find out for themselves what's what.
Today, the overwhelming majority of the members have no clue what they're part of. They literally can't read or understand the meaning of the ancient texts. Even this had become fucking fiat. Not to mention that between 30 and 33 degrees of the Scottish Rite there should only be impeccable men. None I've seen irl are behaving like one.

It's possible. Though, OF is behind Cloudflare. Assuming they're using R2 buckets for object storage of media there is no egress fees, which could be saving them lots of money if they're caching properly.

but the error you shared seemed pretty clear that you have to configure a wallet to you Alby Account and it gives you a link to a page.
