As someone used to working in high-throughput production environments -- which software development increasingly is, as it becomes commoditized -- the ability to simply Read All the Things will become an impossible task.
We'll have to review efficiently, according to project priorities, criticality, and severity.
We already do this, to some extent. That's why everyone quickly implements event viewers, but drags their feet on event publishers.

> I think we still might be talking past each other on a couple things, though.
Probably :)
The problem with Last seen is many people, including myself, would rather not make that public. What’s worse is that it is unexpected. When you update a private bookmark, or some other private data, you don’t expect someone else to see that you were online 1 minute ago, but that’s what happens when using public relays to save private data, even when encrypted because the metadata is public.
> When the user then decides to follow someone from this new client, instead of taking the information from an existing kind 3 and adding to it, the client just creates a new one. Is that accurate or is there something else happening behind the scenes causing follow lists to get nuked?
Yes accurate, but with follow lists you can be almost certain there should be one available when adding existing accounts, so if you can’t find one you can disable the follow button. Or you can publish a new list with an older timestamp to reduce the chance of overwriting the one not found.

Of course, but you don't know if the AI will adhere to the standards.
AI is not an algorithm that you can program absolutely, by writing clear instructions. The instructions are merely a list of your preferences and it then takes them into account, more or less, when making its own decisions. Prompts are not programming, they're nudging.
Also, there are major ethical considerations to software design. That is where virtue matters most.

check the node page on the alby hub. there you see channels, on chain balance, etc.
if a channel is closed for whatever reason it means that the funds become onchain available again. (lighting is the second layer to transact instantly)
that 0 is the spendable balance in lightning.
I know it’s sadly still more complicated than plain onchain or some custodial service that does it for you or some service like paypal…
but that’s the properties of lightning. all has upsides/downsides.

I added a new message now for when you try to REQ a kind we do not store on inbox. It should used the “blocked” prefix. Thank you for pointing this out to me.
And yes - I think that is a challenge for sure. I think the main proposal is based on Vitor wanting to have 1 socket connection for multiple logged in accounts on Amethyst. He can AUTH with all of the logged in accounts when they prompt so that he can access privileged events for all those pubkeys. It’s a bit messy on the client side but it was easy to implement on our end so we went ahead and did it. I assume the proposal will change 10 more times in the next year and our implementation will break soon.

why do you think you have not been in control?
you have been as much in control as the channel partner. so anyone can close.
you see the details on the node page.
and you get an email notification because you enabled those about events of your wallet. interesting that you think the sender controls this.
I know lightning is still early and complicated… also as you’re a programmer feel free to open an issue on github… it’s all open source

> I also see the value of having certain types of mutes public
Yes public mute is useful, especially to remove some possible taint from one's WoT, but maybe it's better to use public reports for that so the mutes can stay private. At the moment Nostur doesn't do anything with reports yet, aside from being able publish them.
> You mentioned that "last seen" metadata is still leaked, even in encrypted lists. I am not familiar with that means.
With the Last Seen I mean this:
https://media.utxo.nl/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/last-seen_.webp
When you update something that you expect to be private, it will still reveal in the metadata that you did something and when using relays as storage it happens all the time, this is what updates the "Last Seen".
> We're talking about storing a long-standing standard event kind
Compared to the mute list the follow list is even more long-standing/defined but last week I saw 2 more people get their list nuked, its just not solved (only in theory but not in practice). Nostur is used a lot to recover follow lists, I would probably have to implement similar mechanisms for mute lists.
> How do you plan to handle the encrypted data in the kind 10000 at the time of import, if there is any? Decrypt it and store it locally and on iCloud unencrypted?
Yes decrypt and store, and on iCloud can also be encrypted.
> is there a way to make sure that Nostur only adds the local mutes to the new list, without removing entries
Yes but this is basically the same problem as with the follow lists, maybe even harder because there are some tricks that can be applied to prevent follow list nuking that probably won't work for mute lists.

You talk about different things here. Channels and Alby Hub are completely related. Channels can be closed in any lightning node - this is the basic concept of lightning and also important to make sure you and the channel partner are in full control.
Alby Hub integrates some LSPs but Alby does not provide any channel services.
If your channel was closed you can check with the channel partner. Or you're free to open a channel to any node that you like.

Those sats have been for a lightning channel? Sadly this is how the lightning network works and applies for all lightning nodes.
You can choose to either have full control, be self-sovereign and own your own channels (with everything that comes with it) or you depend and rely on other custodial services and everything that comes with that)...
-

@ 330fb143:7ee42dac
2025-06-12 15:15:52
Channels are the basics of how the lightning network works. To stay in full control you or the channel partner can close channels. What channel did you have?
Did you get a channel from a LSP (lightning service provider - like lnserver, megalith, etc.)?
Alby does not provide those channels and has no control over those. The Alby Hub node tries hard to avoid channel closures but it's up to you or the channel partner.
We don't know why it was closed. Often it happens if the channel is not used or if the node is offline for an extended period.

I added multi user auth exclusively as a result of that PR. I don’t understand what is wrong though. The client always chooses which key to auth from, no?

If the restore pop up is not showing in Nostur but you still have all your follows there (check sidebar left side to be sure), you can just follow or unfollow someone and it will have the same effect as restoring your follow list

this is one thing that sockets can do better, because they don't necessarily send events all at once. i wrote the filters previously such that they sort and return results all in one whack, i think what you probably want then is for each filter, in the response you identify the query by a number, and the client always maintains an SSE channel that allows the relay to push results.
with this, the query can then propagate, all the results that are hot in the cache are sent, and if there was events that required a query forward, those results can then get sent to the client over the SSE subscription connection.
i really really need to have some kind of elementary event query console to do these things, a rudimentary front end. i probably should just make it a TUI, i think there is at least one existing Go TUI kind 1 client... i should just build with that, instead of fighting the bizarre lack of adequate GUIs for Go

The consistent summer afternoon scattered thunderstorms make for more difficult flight planning this time of year. Though my plane can technically fly up to 25,000 feet, I only fly up to 17k as that way I can use an oxygen cannula instead of the full mask. Most storms are in the 30s. I also don’t have onboard radar, only XM weather which can be delayed as much as 15 minutes.
I’ve found that often a large deviation around the outside of an entire system (as opposed to picking your way through it) is not as time consuming as you might think. A smoother and safer ride for you and your passengers for a 10-20% increase in travel time. A good tradeoff most of the time.

"Most AI systems today are stuck in a “cage” designed by humans. They rely on fixed architectures crafted by engineers and lack the ability to evolve autonomously over time. This is the Achilles heel of modern AI — like a car, no matter how well the engine is tuned and how skilled the driver is, it cannot change its body structure or engine type to adapt to a new track on its own. But what if AI could learn and improve its own capabilities without human intervention? In this post, we will dive into the concept of self-improving systems and a recent effort towards building one."

Don’t waste your time with semisol. The only way he knows how to market anything he builds is by criticizing others. It’s pretty transparent and most people know it at this point.
Keep building - the rest of us appreciate you.

Happy to hear any suggestion to get around the simple fact that spam will always be rampant when new profiles can be spun up for free and messages can be saved to servers for free with the expectation they will be seen.
You either need to be purposeful about limiting who can put posts in front of your face or you will have spam. There's not really any way around that except to hand that responsibility to a central authority.

Actually, not your followers but the people you follow.
The people you follow would not be included in my WoT unless others I follow (with less than 2000 follows in their contact list) also have those follows in their contact list.

both give you a 429 error - which means too many requests. So firewalls seem to somehow block you.
Do you use some VPN/Tor/Proxy/what ISP?

iron dome is a boondoggle for high speed large yield ballistic missiles.
iran's main and booming weapons industry, which they are earning a mint from selling their drones to Russia, is drones. iron dome don't work on that. big drones, already are covered by standard SAMs but small drones require every possible strategic target to have a guard around it armed with shotguns because drones of the size of a small child can do way more damage and can be hidden, brought in by recon guys, launched, and they return to their hidey hole and key infrastructure, such as transmission antennas, power infrastructure and ammo caches can be attacked with them.
the persians are very crafty, historically well known as the inventors of the game of Chess and a great legacy of mathematical excellence. they are advantaged compared to israel because while israel has had a firehose of US money flooded at it, they built up boondoggles like the iron dome, and spent a lot of money on other standard 20th century standing army capabilities, whereas iran has less of a budget and have had to work on more unconventional warfare techniques, and funded enemies of israel like hizbollah and the houthis and the various others, including their neighbours like the former Assad regime of syria, and various groups in lebanon, jordan and so forth.
considering iran has china and russia as allies and trading partners, i think that israel is going to really regret trying to tread on iran.
