So to translate this to a group context, you would need every community relay to either support push notifications directly, or forwarding events to another push notification server? Dishwasher companies do market research like anyone else. They have gone out of their way to find out why people would continue to hand wash dishes with a dishwasher available.
One thing they found is that some people think the dishwasher doesn't work because they load it wrong. I'm talking things like loading cups upright and then getting annoyed that they are full of dirty water at the end. Seeing that, it doesn't occur to them to flip the cup upside down next time, they just blame the dishwasher and stop using it.
These people are out there. They live among us appearing to be normal adults at first glance. They don't get assigned handlers and don't carry a sign. There is no way for you to know if you are talking to one until it is too late.
I think about this when I talk to some people. Not everyone, but some people remind me of this story.

Please folks, if you're going to even attempt to interact with the vibe-coded stuff, make sure to create a separate key and share as little data as possible. Using that fancy NIP-46 Remote Signer with your only key and all-encompassing permissions is about as safe as pasting your nsec directly into the app.
PS: This is not limited to clients. Be very careful with what relays you add to your Outbox, and think twice before clicking that big, beautiful Auth button. Same for NWC stuff.

You talk about different things here. Channels and Alby Hub are completely related. Channels can be closed in any lightning node - this is the basic concept of lightning and also important to make sure you and the channel partner are in full control.
Alby Hub integrates some LSPs but Alby does not provide any channel services.
If your channel was closed you can check with the channel partner. Or you're free to open a channel to any node that you like.

Those sats have been for a lightning channel? Sadly this is how the lightning network works and applies for all lightning nodes.
You can choose to either have full control, be self-sovereign and own your own channels (with everything that comes with it) or you depend and rely on other custodial services and everything that comes with that)...

Channels are the basics of how the lightning network works. To stay in full control you or the channel partner can close channels. What channel did you have?
Did you get a channel from a LSP (lightning service provider - like lnserver, megalith, etc.)?
Alby does not provide those channels and has no control over those. The Alby Hub node tries hard to avoid channel closures but it's up to you or the channel partner.
We don't know why it was closed. Often it happens if the channel is not used or if the node is offline for an extended period.

In bitcoin, censorship-resistant is not the same as censorship-proof. Just like water-resistant is not the same as water-proof. When miners make a block, they do so by choosing which transactions to include and which to exclude. That is a form of censorship. It is a mistake to think that a "greedy" approach to this, is the only game in town. Miners want to maximize long-term gains, not short term events. The best way to do this is to be a good actor.

Does anyone have ideas on how to handle push notifications for encrypted or access-controlled notes? The problem is that it seems to me the push notification server is going to need access to the user's signer in order to sign relay AUTH messages and decrypt DMs (if they want to show DM content in the notification).
On my email notifications server (https://github.com/coracle-social/anchor), I'm allowing the user to optionally send along a NIP 46 session so that I can sign AUTH messages, but for obvious reasons this makes me nervous.
I am aware of 0xchat's spec for push notifications (https://github.com/0xchat-app/0xchat-core/blob/main/doc/nofitications.md), but it seems like closed groups and NIP 17 group chat support is limited.

All of this is a potential problem with any app, which is why I've never liked how Nostr keys work. We should be able to generate sub keys or something for apps. Using a separate key for everything dampens the appeal for me. And it still doesn't solve getting rekt on a particular app.
A hardware signer at least would be nice, but I'm guessing that UX would suck for the social media case. Maybe using it to generate or destroy sub keys?
It also may be unapparent what is vibed and what isn't. Even non-vibed may have shit security. That's why I favor a deeper solution. Maybe it isn't possible. I have no idea.

Old dormant accounts have to go though support after a 1.5 years grace with plenty of notifications and public announcements period.
As you already know since 1.5 years we focus on self-sovereign Alby Hub and the old system has been shut down.
