除了担心有副作用，一些人更觉得没有必要。长期以来，产妇的痛苦一直被有意无意的忽视，“生孩子哪有不疼的”之类观念深入人心。经济因素也是一个阻碍，无痛分娩的花费大概在1000-3000元不等，很多人不舍得花这笔钱。不过，比起过去，现在对产妇的一个利好是，产妇在意识清醒的情况下，可以自行决定要不要打无痛针，不需要家属签字同意。但有些时候，因为麻醉师不够，也不一定能无痛分娩。据业内人士分析，国内麻醉师数量严重不足，缺口高达30万。客观上来说，产妇的产程不一，如果选择使用无痛，就需要麻醉师时时监控。这对于麻醉医生数量本就不足的综合性医院来说，是一个很大的挑战。
