Oekraïne meldt aanval met honderden Russische drones: 2 doden en 13 gewonden
Rusland heeft in de nacht van maandag op dinsdag opnieuw grootschalige drone- en raketaanvallen uitgevoerd op Oekraïne. In totaal gaat het om 315 drones en zeven raketten, meldt de Oekraïense luchtmacht op Telegram. Bij de aanvallen kwamen twee mensen om het leven en raakten dertien anderen gewond.
Met name Kyiv was het doelwit van de droneaanvallen. Zeker zeven van de tien districten van de stad werden getroffen. Volgens de Oekraïense president Zelensky gaat het om een van de grootste aanvallen op de hoofdstad sinds het begin van de oorlog. De aanvallen "overstemmen de inspanningen van de VS en anderen wereldwijd om Rusland tot vrede te dwingen", schrijft hij op X. Rusland meldt Oekraïense tegenaanvallen.
Van de 315 drones werden er volgens de Oekraïense luchtmacht 284 vernietigd. Ook werden zeven raketten gelanceerd, waaronder twee ballistische raketten van Noord-Koreaanse makelij, schrijft president Zelensky op X.
De aanval op Kyiv duurde zeker vijf uur en veroorzaakte branden in verschillende delen van de stad. Journalisten van persbureau AP hoorden langdurig explosies en het gezoem van drones boven de stad. Rookpluimen waren duidelijk zichtbaar. Inwoners van Kyiv vluchtten naar metrostations en sliepen daar tijdens de aanval.
Ook de Oekraïense havenstad Odesa, gelegen aan de Zwarte Zee, werd bestookt met drones. Daar werden onder andere een woonwijk, een noodziekenhuis en een kraamkliniek geraakt, aldus de regionale gouverneur Oleh Kiper. Bij de aanval vielen meerdere doden en raakten verschillende mensen gewond.
In totaal vielen er in Kyiv en Odesa twee doden en zeker dertien gewonden. Naast Kyiv werden ook de regio's Dnipro en Tsjernihiv getroffen. Zelensky heeft de internationale gemeenschap, en met name de VS, opgeroepen tot "concrete acties" in plaats van "stilte" na de grootschalige aanvallen.
Luchthavens stilgelegd
Ook Oekraïne vuurde afgelopen nacht drones af op Rusland. De Russische luchtmacht meldt 102 Oekraïense drones te hebben vernietigd boven de regio's Brjansk, Moskou en Leningrad. Hoeveel drones hun doel wel hebben bereikt, is niet bekend. Volgens Russische autoriteiten zou er geen schade zijn veroorzaakt.
Vanwege de Oekraïense droneaanvallen werd het vliegverkeer bij vier grote luchthavens rond Moskou en bij Sint-Petersburg stilgelegd. Ook bij negen andere luchthavens werd het vliegverkeer onderbroken. Vanochtend is het vliegverkeer vrijwel volledig hervat.
Rusland heeft de intensiteit van zijn aanvallen opgevoerd na een reeks succesvolle Oekraïense aanvallen op Russisch grondgebied. Deze aanvallen, bekend als Operatie Spinnenweb, waren gericht op luchtmachtbases diep achter de Russische grens. Aan de operatie werkte de Oekraïense geheime dienst SBU ruim anderhalf jaar.
Op de grond wint Rusland de afgelopen dagen terrein, het claimt de Oekraïense regio Dnipropetrovsk te hebben ingenomen. Het doel van de Russische troepen is om daar een bufferzone van te maken, schrijft persbureau Reuters. De Oekraïense autoriteiten hebben nog niet gereageerd op de Russische claim.
Beide landen hebben de afgelopen paar weken krijgsgevangenen uitgewisseld, het enige resultaat van de recente rechtstreekse vredesbesprekingen in Istanbul. Een wapenstilstand, waar Kyiv al lange tijd op hoopt, blijft voorlopig uit.
