Met windmolens en velden vol zonnepanelen wordt ballonvaren wel ingewikkeld
Grote windmolens, kleine windmolens, velden vol zonnepanelen, Natura 2000-gebieden en dan ook nog oefenplekken voor drones: dat alles maakt ballonvaren er anno 2025 niet eenvoudiger op. Al die obstakels beperken het aantal plekken waar ballonnen veilig kunnen landen.
"Dat vinden wij natuurlijk jammer, maar het zijn nu eenmaal de veranderingen in het landschap hè", zegt Frank de Goede, directeur van GreetZZ Ballonvaarten. "Daar hadden we tien jaar geleden nog amper mee te maken."
Harde cijfers over het aantal obstakels zijn er niet: "Het is wat we in de praktijk waarnemen", zegt De Goede. Zonneparken staan niet op luchtvaartkaarten. Windmolens wel, en ook oefenplekken voor drones. "Dus die informatie nemen we uiteraard mee in de vaarplanning." Grote delen van Noord-Holland en de Flevopolder vallen daardoor bij voorbaat al af.
En daar komt dan het veranderende klimaat nog eens bij. Volgens het KNMI maakt dat ballonvaren nog complexer: "Hogere temperaturen, grilliger windpatronen en hevige buien zorgen voor extra risico's en vaker geannuleerde vaarten", stelde het KNMI vorige week in een bericht aan de ballonvaartsector.
Jaarlijks 60.000 passagiers
Na moeilijke coronajaren heeft de branche de wind weer mee. In 2015 waren er zo'n 4500 ballonvaarten per jaar, tijdens corona nul en afgelopen jaar tikte de teller 8000 vaarten aan. En wat ook opvalt: tien jaar geleden gingen er gemiddeld vier personen mee met een ballonvaart, nu gemiddeld acht.
"We schatten het aantal passagiers nu jaarlijks op ruim 60.000", zegt Monique Hoogeslag namens de Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Luchtvaart, afdeling ballonvaren. De sector telt zo'n 100 ballonvaartbedrijven: tien grote en 90 kleinere die vooral regionaal actief zijn.
"Voorheen gingen mensen mee met de ballon omdat ze bijvoorbeeld 50 jaar werden, of 25 jaar bij de zaak werkten. Nu lijkt het erop dat de nieuwe generatie jongvolwassenen eerder kiest voor een beleving. Het staat op de bucketlist en mensen wachten niet langer. Wellicht heeft de ervaring van corona daarmee te maken: pluk de dag."
Van varen komt varen
Volgens Hoogeslag - ook eigenaar van Wilco Air en zelf al 35 jaar ballonpiloot - is mooi weer in april/mei van grote invloed: "Van varen komt varen. Als we nu ballonnen in de lucht zien, staat bij ons de telefoon roodgloeiend. Als we een goed voorjaar hebben, blijft dat de hele zomer doorwerken."
Alle obstakels dwingen piloten om - nog meer dan vroeger - te kijken waar ze veilig kunnen varen. De Goede: "Hoe staat de wind? Wat kom ik allemaal tegen? Je wil niet na een uur ballonvaren boven de bossen hangen op de Veluwe, of boven de Flevopolder met al zijn windmolens. Dus je moet ook nauwlettend kijken waar de vaart begint. Vaarplanning wordt steeds belangrijker."
Spanning met boeren
Of boeren en tuinders enthousiast zijn over de groeiende populariteit van de ballonvaart, is de vraag. Er zijn boeren die laaiend worden als een ballon ongevraagd laag overvliegt en het geluid van de gasbrander koeien, schapen of pony's in paniek alle kanten doet opstuiven. Of als door de landing van de ballon schade wordt aangericht aan hun gewassen.
Ooit heeft landbouworganisatie LTO Nederland geprobeerd afspraken te maken met de commerciële ballonsector. Volgens een oude publicatie in vakblad Nieuwe Oogst heeft LTO sinds 2012 diverse gesprekken gevoerd met de koepel van ballonvaarders. Daarbij is nooit overeenstemming bereikt over wat een passende vergoeding is voor een landing op het land van een boer of tuinder.
Bij Jos Knoef, veehouder met 120 melkkoeien in Overijssel, wordt nog weleens in de wei geland. "Ze komen hier regelmatig over. Het is nog nooit verkeerd gegaan. Kijk, waar koeien wel enorm van kunnen schrikken in de wei, is het geluid van die gasbranders. Dan is er wel gevaar dat ze in paniek door het prikkeldraad vliegen. En dat ze zich beschadigen. Dat heb ik weleens gehoord. Maar zelf heb ik geen narigheden meegemaakt. Meestal melden ze zich na de landing netjes en krijgen we een fles drank of zo, of een tegoedbon voor een ballonvaart."

I would listen to this after my first heartbreak. The problem is finding it through the noise of bad relationship advice. I think most men and women are good and want healthy honest relationships. The problem is they just have the wrong expectations of relationships. Um estudante de odontologia, de 19 anos, morreu após apostar um “racha” entre motos no bairro Bandeirante em Santo Afonso, a 266 km de Cuiabá, na madrugada deste domingo (8). Segundo a Polícia Civil, Kayk Batista Tavares pilotava uma moto em alta velocidade e perdeu o controle da direção.
De acordo com a polícia, os agentes foram acionados por volta de 2h40 para atender a ocorrência de trânsito envolvendo duas motos. Segundo os policiais, Kayk e outro motociclista estavam disputando uma corrida nas vias públicas do município.
Ainda segundo a polícia, ao tentar realizar uma ultrapassagem em alta velocidade em uma curva, Kayk perdeu o controle da direção próximo à ponte de entrada no município e caiu.
O jovem foi socorrido com vida e encaminhado a uma unidade de saúde local, mas não resistiu aos ferimentos. O caso segue em investigação.
