그가 왕성히 활동하던 시기는 닉슨~레이건 시기이며, 금본위제 폐지로 닉슨을 비판했습니다. 베트남 전쟁 후 미국의 반전 분위기가 팽배해지고 레이건 대통령이 당선되자 그의 ‘작은 정부’를 위한 정책 기틀을 잡는 데 영향을 끼친 인물이기도 합니다. 어찌 보면 몇 안 되는 정부 자문 역할을 한 자유주의 계열 경제학자 지식인이기도 하며, 이러한 이유들로 기존의 아나키스트 자본주의자들(AnCaps)과는 차이가 있는 주장들이 많습니다. (정부의 입맛에 맞추어 어느 정도 변형된 자유주의)

그렇지만 저는 그의 학문적 유산이 무가치 하다고 생각하지는 않습니다.
