WhatsApp may soon let you create a username, and hide your phone number
Shortly after bringing its popular messaging app for iPad, WhatsApp Messenger is said to be working on a new feature that is likely to be appreciated by users. You may soon be able to create a username and share it with others, instead of giving them your phone number.
Username sharing is already available in many messaging services, including Signal and Telegram. Nevertheless, this is a welcome move from WhatsApp. Users will be able to choose a unique username for their account. There are quite a few rules about creating a username, it only supports lowercase letters. You need to include at least one letter for your username, and it should contain at least 3 characters, but cannot exceed 30.

People act precious about sharing email addresses, as if we don't already have battle-tested solutions like disposable emails/anonymous email aliases.
Practice good OPSEC. Using easily generated, disposable emails and long, unique passwords—through tools like SimpleLogin and a password manager like ProtonPass or BitWarden—is far more secure than carelessly plugging your one and only NSEC into random alpha/beta/stable apps that haven't passed a single independent security audit.
Using event signers like Amber or extensions like nos2x is better, as it reduces your dependency on 3rd party app security, but all the key/event signers we have have never been subjected to or passed an independent security audit.
Just because something's built on or compatible with Nostr doesn't make it secure, and just because someone is an outstanding developer does not make them a security professional. 99% of app developers are unqualified to audit their own apps—that's why proper security audits cost ~$15K+ and require a team of dedicated specialists.
The reality is: if you your nsec gets doxxed, everything attached to it is doxxed—period. There's no fallback, no way to keep your account and just change compromised login info. This is even more critical for businesses on Nostr and those outsourcing social media management—incompetent/disgruntled ex-employees are a very real threat.
Myself and many others have said time and time again: we need a parent/child key system—with the ability to generate, pause, and deactivate child keys—to match the basic privacy and security that we already have with disposable emails and lengthy unique passwords. The clock is ticking.

This is a bit different than the vitor model where each apps share an on-device relay which is not possible on ios. In this case they all share the same in-browser relay, which has best performance.

Agentes fazem operação de ordenamento no imóvel da antiga Casa de Saúde São Sebastião
Há alguns anos o espaço é utilizado como depósito clandestino de ambulantes. Uma operação da subprefeitura da Zona Sul do Rio encontrou, na manhã desta quarta-feira (4), carrinhos com comida estragada, lixo, entulho e objetos armazenados de forma inadequada no imóvel da antiga Casa de Saúde São Sebastião, no Catete, na Zona Sul do Rio.
Há alguns anos o espaço vem sendo utilizado como depósito clandestino de ambulantes, que guardam os carrinhos e produtos armazenadas de forma inadequada e em desacordo com as normas sanitárias e urbanísticas.
“Infelizmente, hoje, aqui na área ou próximo daqui, não tem nada legalizado para nós guardarmos nossa mercadoria. E a gente sofre essas perdas. Para nós, um dia sem trabalhar é um sacrifício muito grande na nossa renda. Muitos tem o mínimo, menos que um salário mínimo, e conseguimos sobrevier mesmo assim”, afirmou o ambulante Igor Cardoso Rufino.
A ação conta com om apoio da Secretaria de Ordem Pública (Seop), Guarda Municipal, Comlurb, Rioluz, Secretaria de Saúde e Polícia Militar.
Segundo a subprefeitura, desde 2023 o espaço está interditado pela Defesa Civil por conta de risco de desabamento.
A subprefeitura ainda alertou para o risco de doença, pois foram encontradas muitas comidas estragadas no local.
“A maioria dos ambulantes aqui não tem nem alvará e autorização para desempenhar a atividade. A gente encontrou nessa região vários depósitos irregulares”, afirmou o subprefeito Bernardo Rubião.
