TEXAS just passed a law that turns Big Tech giants Apple and Google into bouncers at the gates of the internet.
Under SB 2420, starting 2026, app stores must verify the age of every user. Want to download a weather app? You’ll need to show ID. And if you’re under 18, you can’t install anything without a parent’s permission.
This isn’t about “protecting children.” Porn apps are already banned in the app stores. This is about creating a mass surveillance system that erases anonymity, chills speech, and forces Texans to hand over their real identities to access digital life.
The state tells developers to “delete the data.” But delete when? And trust who? Developers? Apple? Google? You’re betting your privacy on a handshake.
Meanwhile, Apple and Google are forced to collect and store troves of sensitive info from every user, just to comply.
For Texans, from next year, everything you say on a social media app can be tied to your real-world identity.

We’re working on an open communities spec at damus. one downside of lightning zaps is that they are not verifiable from random people, they are only verifiable if you trust the wallet that sent the zap.
I haven’t looked at the cashu zaps spec, but i wonder if you could you build a stacker-news like client where the community has their own cashu node? Then you could validate zaps against the community mint, enabling secure, Reddit-style top posts powered by ecash zaps.
Is this doable nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg ? I guess the last ingredient is making sure the ecash wallet swaps the token for the community you are sending nuts to.
Maybe ya’ll are building something similar at chorus?

Wall Street doesn’t realize that every action they take in #Bitcoin only has a short-term effect. Why? Because the system they operate in is fundamentally short-term by design it’s shaped by fiat behavior.
From price manipulation, suppression, and paper Bitcoin, to custodians, centralized exchanges, and rehypothecation it’s all just fiat tools trying to bend #Bitcoin into their old framework.
In my view, the #Bitcoin acquired by Wall Street is essentially lost to the network. And ironically, that makes the remaining Bitcoin even more valuable and pure.
To the so-called Bitcoiners trying to help Wall Street and the legacy system integrate into #Bitcoin: GFY. We’re not here to build a #Bitcoin standard on top of rotting foundations. This movement is for the next generations not for propping up the dying structures of the past.

Publicly beating a new mental model into shape. Here goes.
First the well known form.
Think about moving quickly through physical space. Driving, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding or similar. There are obstacles in that space. You must be aware of the obstacles, but if you think only about avoiding the obstacles your movements will become oscillating over-corrections until you crash.
Instead of the obstacles you have to focus on your path forward. Awareness of the obstacles should be just high enough in your brain to know that they are not part of the path. Easily 90% of brain cycles are the path with 10% or less the obstacles for someone skilled at that form of movement.
Now the analogy.
The best version of yourself and your best possible life are the path. Every improvement you make, self improvement or something like improving your situation and environment, is a step forward on the path.
The outside world and other people are the obstacles. Thinking about what other people are up to is obstacle time. Thinking about where you are going and why is path time.

I started down this thought process as an anti "news" argument. To extend the analogy, watching the news all day is kind of like driving around with a horrible backseat driver. We've all had that person who was yelling car!, red light!, kid!, stop sign!, deer! While you are trying to drive. They think they are helping but really they are pushing you into a reactionary "avoid the obstacle" mode of driving instead of a proactive "follow the path" way of thinking while driving.

the tl;dr of why monerobros are wrong:
1. a blockchain ledger cannot scale sufficiently to enable sufficient users (anonymity set)
2. it can't be a store of value with a weak encryption scheme because there is always some question about whether the supply has increased without it being observable by exploiting an as yet unknown bug in the implementations
