จริงอยู่ครับว่า ห้างสรรพสินค้าอย่าง Big C หรือ Lotus อาจจะมีทุกอย่างที่เราต้องการซื้อในข้างต้น (มีทั้งโทรศัพท์มือถือ มีทั้งชุดสุกี้สำเร็จรูป มีทั้งเฟอร์นิเจอร์) แต่คุณภาพ ราคา และ/หรือความหลากหลายของสินค้าที่ถูกขายอยู่ในห้างสรรพสินค้าดังกล่าวอาจจะไม่สามารถตอบโจทย์เราได้ดีเท่ากับกรณีที่เราไปที่ Power Buy หรือสุกี้ตี๋น้อย หรือ Home Pro โดยตรง
ความสัมพันธ์ที่เรามีกับผู้คนในชีวิตก็เหมือนกันครับ
หากเราคาดหวังให้คนหนึ่งคน (เช่น เพื่อนสนิท แฟน) เป็นคนที่เราสามารถเล่นเกมด้วยกันได้ พูดคุยถกเถียงเรื่องปรัชญาการเมืองได้ คอยให้กำลังใจเวลาที่เราเผชิญกับอุปสรรคในชีวิต ไปเที่ยวสไตล์ adventure ด้วยกันได้ (เช่น ไปเดินป่า) เป็นที่ปรึกษาในเรื่องการทำงาน ฯลฯ นั่นเท่ากับเรากำลังคาดหวังให้คนๆนั้นรับบทเป็น Big C หรือ Lotus
ซึ่งมันยากจริงๆครับที่คนหนึ่งคนจะรับบทเป็น Big C หรือ Lotus ได้ และต่อให้คนๆนั้นจะทำได้ มันก็ยากยิ่งเข้าไปใหญ่ครับที่เขาจะสามารถตอบโจทย์เราได้ดีในทุกๆด้าน ไม่ว่าจะในด้าน “โทรศัพท์มือถือ” “สุกี้สำเร็จรูป” หรือ “เฟอร์นิเจอร์” (อันที่จริง หากเรามองย้อนกลับมาที่ตัวเราเอง และลองนึกภาพว่าตัวเรากำลังรับบทเป็น Big C หรือ Lotus ให้กับใครสักคน เราจะเห็นได้ชัดเจนสุดๆเลยครับว่ามันยากขนาดไหน)
นี่จึงเป็นสาเหตุสำคัญที่ทำให้การมีความสัมพันธ์ที่หลากหลาย (โดยที่แต่ละความสัมพันธ์จะเน้นตอบโจทย์ความต้องการของเราที่แตกต่างกันไป) ให้ผลลัพธ์ที่ดีกว่า เมื่อเทียบกับการมีความสัมพันธ์กับคนๆเดียว (หรือไม่กี่คน) และคาดหวังให้คนๆนั้นตอบโจทย์ความต้องการในทุกๆด้านครับ
