De Nijmegenaar Michel Collenburg maakt vanuit zijn woonkamer experimentele muziek die toe nu toe werd beluisterd door een bescheiden aantal luisteraars. Daar komt nu verandering in: een van zijn nummers is gebruikt in de populaire HBO-serie The Cleaning Lady. De bewuste aflevering komt vanavond online.
De Amerikaanse misdaadserie gaat over een Cambodjaans-Filipijnse chirurg die in Las Vegas illegaal aan de slag gaat als schoonmaker, in de hoop dat haar zoontje in aanmerking komt voor een unieke medische behandeling. Ze krijgt vervolgens een baan aangeboden als arts en schoonmaker binnen een criminele organisatie. De serie trekt al vier seizoenen lang miljoenen kijkers.
Collenburg kreeg een tijd geleden ineens een bericht van een Amerikaanse music supervisor, iemand die verantwoordelijk is voor de muzikale aspecten van een film of ander project. "Toen ik het bericht ontving was er meteen een soort argwaan, zo van: klopt dit wel?", vertelt Collenburg aan Omroep Gelderland. Toen hij de naam van de vrouw opzocht, bleek zij verantwoordelijk voor de muziek in hitseries als Breaking Bad en The Walking Dead.
Kotsgeluiden
Dat volstond voor Collenburg om toestemming te geven om een van zijn nummers te laten gebruiken. "Het is een beetje onwerkelijk dat ergens iemand in Los Angeles heeft bedacht dat mijn nummer onder deze scène moet", zegt hij.
Het nummer Klimt is te horen in de tiende aflevering van het vierde seizoen. In de bewuste scène is te zien hoe een stel vrouwen drugsbolletjes uitbraakt. "Ook wel lekker die kotsgeluiden zo onder mijn track", grapt Collenburg, "Dat stond niet helemaal in de beschrijving in het contract." Hij is echter heel blij dat de scène niet is gesneuveld op de montagetafel.
Verwacht geen popliedje met een catchy melodie en zang. De Nijmegenaar maakt elektronische, instrumentale muziek. Hij gebruikt daarvoor naast instrumenten als gitaar en synthesizer ook huis-tuin-en-keukenspullen. Denk aan een thee-ei dat over een dinerbord wordt geschraapt.
Hij vindt het "heel tof" dat zijn nummer vanaf vandaag door miljoenen mensen gehoord zal worden. Collenburg: "Een grote kans om een breder, internationaal publiek te bereiken. Sowieso is de timing heel goed, omdat ik op dit moment stappen aan het zetten ben in het maken van filmmuziek."

Social media has also this perverse effect to bring to front private things that should stay private.
Perhaps you like to eat your boogers, and posting it on social media would make anyone disgusted about it.
But it wouldn't change that you like to eat your boogers and you are free to do it, it doesn't hurt anyone.
And everybody don't care about it if you do it in your home.
No one have to right to avoid you doing it (only you mother can avoid it to you when you are young).

From the crawlers perspective, sort of. The problem with AI that doesn't use physics to define the landscape, the only way it can measure reality is by measuring the entropy. Measuring the entropy takes precious time, while your opponent (aware of the landmines) gobbles up relative its opponent. If this race is going on as a 'proof of time' inversion to proof of work, then it fits with what I feel about the world.
